I got a chance to drive a few of the new Dodge trucks yesterday. The trucking company I work for has a contract with TOTE. They have three ships that service Alaska. They are upgrading there Tacoma terminal and have limited space.
So we got to move 50 of the trucks bound for Alaska to a storage yard.
Let me tell you. That new Hemi is awesome. And the ride is great (for a pickup).
Also drove the Turbo diesels. Both great trucks, But I would go with the Hemi.
Missboatnam, What are the cubic inches of the 4.7 liter engine? 318???

What are the cubic inches of the 4.7 liter engine? 318??? Literally, at 4.7 liters it comes out to
(liters=cu.inches x 61.02) 286.794, but I'm guessing it's a 283.
Which is a shame, sorta, because I would appreciate a brand new 426 Hemi. :D
Thanks

I went with my brother to test drive a 1500 with the Hemi. These things haul butt!
If I hadn't already bought a Burb with the 8.1, (which also hauls butt), I would definitely consider one for a tow vehicle. Note: I thought all of the Hemi's were 5.2 (ie: 318CI)?

The Dodge website says the "Hemi" is a 345hp 5.7 liter.
Tina, what dealership do you work at? I'm interested in a standard cab shortbed 2wd 1500 SLT with the "Hemi" and the 20" wheels.

Yes , The Hemi's are a 5.7 liter.
We moved some more today. Ones bound for Alaska.
Had a chance to hope in some new Chevys as well and drive them.
Duramax diesels, 8100 vortex and others.
WOW, For my money the Dodge is twice the truck.
Their diesel smokes the Chevy.
And I grew up with Dad always having a Chevy in the driveway.
My how times change.
GOD, Does this make me a Mopar fan????

That was actually my next question. :D
I have always had a Chevy. My current '96 C1500 with 5.7 has 210,000 miles on it and is still running strong. Nothing major has gone wrong other than the transmission, radiator and the miscellaneous little stuff that one can expect with that kind of mileage.
Am I going to get that kind of dependable mileage from the Dodge?

RaysonKid

I dont know what to say about reliability.
But it was an eye opener being able to drive one right after the other.
Wish I could of also driven a Ford...
Its funny how the sticker prices and mileage ratings were all really close.

[ April 11, 2003, 08:00 AM: Message edited by: HammerDown ] What's this shit? A joke I hope!!! Hemi Trucks are advertised all over the TV for their great towing ability. Since towing is a major part of boating for most of us, I think it's great that Tina is hooking us up and helping us out.

Jason and riodog-
I'm not gonna speak for Hammerdown...he can do that on his own.
However, just as an FYI...we moderators get ALOT of people whining about posts. In fact, riodog, there are people who whine about your posts...and we have to make tough decisions. Most of the time, you never hear about it.
Jason probably knows what I'm talking about...Dave and Froggy sure do.
So no matter what we do, we're gonna piss someone off...pull it or not.
In the future, perhaps you should remember that, with the exception of porn, posts are rarely touched unless someone complains. In this case, a certain real estate guy complained, cuz he felt he was singled out (which BTW, someone complained about him, so he was edited)...
Don't shoot the messenger...aim your weapons at the whiners...

I personally don't think an ad for a person's personal business, posted under a false subject title, is the same as a fellow boater letting people know about a deal on Trucks (something we all use in association with our boats anyway). Esp when the person posting it is not a sales person and has nothing to gain from the post. In fact, by definition I don't even consider it spam.

Personally, what I really wish is that people would not use the "report post" button as way to whine anonymously. If you don't like someone's post- then say it...don't hide behind a button. If you want a moderator to intervene, then hit the button...don't hide behind it.
Like the member that hid behind the button and reported Tina's post.

Man what a bunch of whiners. You'd think someone just told you you couldn't own a gun or something. This is an internet forum guys. The moderators have been asked to do a job (for no pay by the way). Not every decision is clear cut. Many times decisions are triggered by complaints from users. I've made a couple bad decisions as moderator myself in the past. And I'm not implying Hammer's decision here was bad. To chastise him over something like this is childish. To follow are some guidelines posted by our admin when the moderator deal started:
We are looking for the following qualities in a moderator:
1.) Level headed, not an angry person. (a little angry is ok)
2.) Good knowledge of custom/ hot boats.
3.) Someone who has been around for a while.
4.) Someone who is a near daily reader of the forums.
5.) A person who would like to see the forums free of spam and on topic.
6.) A person who will not power trip and edit other peoples posts.
We are looking for moderators to perform the following functions:
1.) Remove/edit/lock annoying, pornographic, and unrelated threads.
2.) Lock/Ban obnoxious or out of control users.
3.) Possibly some other responsibilities down the road.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
posted December 18, 2002 03:07 PM
I sent a message to all the moderators today about what I am looking for. I am not going to post it here, but here is the idea.
Brief key points.
1. No porn. It is not because I think porn is bad or don’t like it, but it is a legal issue. You can push the limits with bikini shots, and granted some clothed shots are right up there with the best porn, but there is a legal difference. ***boat.net forums are not setup with any AVS and therefore cannot have porn.
No SPAM. This confused people at first. What I am looking to avoid are people selling stuff that is completely off topic, or massive amounts of completely unrelated posts especialy computer generated scripts.
3. Staying on topic. I am leaving this completely up to the moderators of each forum to define what is on or off topic. For instance I would like a discussion about jet boats to be in the jet forum not in the Offshore forum. If someone is new to the site and they post in the wrong forum then the moderator will just move the post.
4. Personal attacks that go beyond mean spirited fun. If you start posting pictures of people kids at the bus stop or something then that is too far.
How far to enforce or not enforce these rules is at the sole discretion of the moderators. I'm not looking for them to represent Hot Boat Mag in any way, just to keep what is your online community a useful place to post.
As for all the people who think that the moderators are the police ****ing grow up. It’s and internet forum. The call Hammer made here was within the above spam guidelines. There's a lot of crap I've seen that never got edited that should have IMO (unrelated to boating spam). You can argue all day about whether a truck loan topic is boating related or not but who cares. The call was made, move on. Hammer's a fair moderator IMO and is not on any type of power trip or a gestapo censor as was mentioned above (I really have to LMAO at that remark as it relates to this). Geeeze guys lighten up. Use your energy to go flame some a-hole or something, there's plenty to choose from. :D

If someone is offering Hot Boat Board members a "Special Deal" that is cool.
Just to Spam the board with products is not cool.
How about if I start pushing American Airlines :D I could start offering every special they have going. I am sure someone has flown to take a cruise. That is boating related?
Lay off of the Moderators. If someone posted asking about a deal on new Dodge Hemi trucks, that might be different.

riopuppy- good god, man! You seem to have a bad case of the "paranoids"...
Put the crack pipe down, and get out of the closet. Once you are out of the closet, pull the sheets off the windows...
I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT YOUR POSTS.
http://www.lamer.net/clippy.jpg
riodog:
When have any of you known me to be anything other than direct, to the point and hopefully honest as well! I'll call it as I see it and if that is offensive to your sensitive nature I'd say maybe you should start living in the real world and learn to accept the truth. What are you talking about? Why do you keep coming back to "how you post"? I mentioned that people complain about posts, without having the balls to say it in public.
While we are on the subject of your posts...I do notice that 85% of them contain some kind of "look at how direct I am" reference. riopuppy- if you are being direct, you don't need to say it. We get it...you can move on.
http://www.orbit3d.com/bbs/attention_*****.jpg
BTW...personally, I tend to ignore posts that lack IQ points...direct or not.
riodog:
And YES, your moderators HAVE struck down posts for no other reason than a power trip. How do you know this? Are you on the moderator e-mail list? How do you know who complains?
riodog:
I'm glad you got some entertainment out of MY use of the term "gestapo censors" however YOUR use of certain four letter words leaves something to be desired. Remember, this is not an authorized porn or nasty word site! What the **** are you talking about? Four letter words were never on the banned list...just porn. Although, I'm beginning to think that "paranoid, look at how direct I am" posts should be added.
riodog:
Maybe the present moderators should be replaced with a bunch of twelve-year-old girls who's identities are kept secrete and are told to get rid of all nasty words and make sure everyone is really sweet and nice to one another and we can all just get along and feel the love!riopuppy- are we reading the same posts? I mentioned two things:
1. Moderators get alot of complaints from the members...some we act on, some we don't. Either way, we look like the bad guy.
2. Don't get pissed at the moderators, with the exception of porn, they are just acting on the wishes of the members.
Now, riopuppy, it would seem that you have "issues" with authority figures. Please answer the following questions:
1. Do you find yourself beating small animals on a consistant basis?
2. Do you like it when your boyfriend handcuffs you and uses his "baton" on you?
3. Do you go on an internet forum, and constantly whine about how "the man is keeping you down"?
If you answered yes to any one of the above questions, then perhaps therapy should be looked into.
http://www.lamer.net/violin.gif
Now, in case you didn't see it above, let me say this again...
I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT YOUR POSTS.
riodog:
Oh gee, I forgot to push the "report the post and hide like a cowardly rat bastard" button.riopuppy- it took you over 160 words to reply to what I was talking about. About par for the course.
All complaints from the "report post" buttons are signed. We know who sent them. However, my gripe is with the people who use the "report post" button, but don't have the balls to speak up on the thread. It would appear that we agree on this- why does it takes you 160 words to agree?
Now, I've been here for almost 2 years, and I can honestly say that with the exeception of the porn being gone, it really hasn't changed by having moderators. If something isn't edited by a moderator, then admin would have to do it...a moderator is just another set of eyes.
So may I make a suggestion, riopuppy?
Quit whining like a little girl.
http://www.lamer.net/tantrum.jpg
If you don't like it here...then leave. If "the man is keeping you down" here...then leave.
Go hang out on your "Barbie Collectors" message boards...and whine to them 24/7 about how "is not in me to twist, prevert or alter the truth and what is right and just to appease the sensitivities of an individual that just wants to hear what suits his or her aggenda in this life (on my Barbie collection)."
http://www.orbit3d.com/bbs/callshit.jpg
Here...one last time...
I WAS NOT TALKING ABOUT YOUR POSTS.
Now, if you reply, it would be easier if you get to the subject right away...I tend to fall asleep during your posts...let alone ones that take 160 words to get to the point.

I am really surprised at the turn this thread took. I have seen a lot of people put up post like "anyone have a hook up on Chevys". So its okay for someone to ask, but a Women that owns a place at the river and a Lavey Craft can't say hey "I have a hook up on Dodge Trucks". Trying to help people on the boards out! It's real simple the thread is called "SPAM-DODGE TRUCKS", if you don't ****ing like it don't read it. This place ran a hell of a lot better before we had the ****ing "HOT BOAT POLICE" to **** with threads. Good job Hammer down. Why not take every ****ing thread down that doesn't ****ing have a ****ing thing to do with ****ing boats? Tina is a great girl and was really only trying to help people out, not take advatage of being on the boards and trying to make an extra ****ing five bucks. Besides does anybody remember the thread "good ole boy network"? Good thing that thread doesn't get started now boy you guys would have to shut it down real quick. Maybe the person that bitched about the thread sells Dodge trucks to and is just pissed because they didn't think to put up a thread about it. Tina is a F&I manager at the dealer, you know the person that takes care of your loan and final docs. Not a fleet manager not a sales manager or sales person. She sells extended warranties and loans.
One quick question, how come I never see Havasu Hangin editing post or getting in the middle of a bunch of shit? But yet he is the one on here justifing it for someone else. Thanks for the clarification on where this board is going.

I still want to know if I can expect a Dodge truck to give me over 200,000 fairly trouble free miles? :D
Oh yea, I too believe this spam was boating related!

6 balls, the 5.7 Hemi has just been released. Anyone who would give you an assessment of the engines average lifespan in normal service would be full of shit. The trucks have been around with other engines. Perhaps someone would give you an assessment of the rest of the vehicle.

I know Tom. I've just always had Chevys and don't know anybody with Dodges, just curious if they hold up well in the long run. I'm seeing a lot of the new body style Dodge trucks on the road lately and not real thrilled with the styling direction Chevy is taking.

How can you have a topic heading that say's **** YOU in caps, eek! and is in the number one slot since yesterday, and not even a peep on changing it or moderating it.
What up with that. smile_sp

Two thumbs down for moderating this thread. There have been many, many threads that have been way more off topic, or far worse than this. IMHO, it shouldn't have been moderated. yuk

I think that just for consistency sake all threads should be moderated, things ran much more smoothly around here when RD was moderating things right and left :)
Maybe this thread should have simply been moved to the tow rigs forum.

Havasu Hangin':
Yup, that's pretty much the way I see it too.
I think this thread just had bad timming is all.

I thought it was going to get the immediate lock down too but I'm glad it didn't because my sides are still sore from laughing.
The tough thing about moderating consistently is that there are a bunch of moderators and, try as they might, they don't share identical discression. Also, things happen such as the outrage in this thread that can affect future decisions, perhaps such as the **** YOU thread.
I think the moderators on these forums do a really good job overall. Given the amount of traffic this site sees, the quantity of moderation is actually really low.
