This the deal I just picked up the boat on E-Bay with a Buy It Now option.I think the sellers are starting to think they let it go to cheep ($6500)
So we are in the e mailing back and forht process right now. The boat only has an alpha on it so I will need to careful. The motor in it is a 350 mag with dart heads and a al. intake ect. They seized the motor on the trailer due to not puttting oil in after being de winterized
You think this was a good deal or just fare? wink

Those are good boats.
A 1989 model is where you look very close at the wood in the transom and floor.
I do not think you would be happy with a small block in a boat that size.

I do have a nice 383 minus ignition, intake and carb. if you decide to go that direction.

I do not think you would be happy with a small block in a boat that size. I agree with you on the transom and what not. I have a uncle with the same boat with a ZZ4 SBC it runs right at 63mph and we replaced the transome. So your right I do not need all those problems In addition to that i just got of the phone with the people and they want me to pay in full to day with out looking at the boat in person  We had already agreed on 2k now and the rest when i pick up the boat in a few weeks but now they are saying they want it now argue I tell you I have not had much luck in buying a boat. F'ing E-Bay It never goes smooth :(
Hey what ever happen to that Checkmate you had for sale? wink

$6500 is a good deal. If those pictures are recent, boat & trailer look to be in good shape. With the alpha 1 I would stay with the sbc. With the extra's on the sbc, a stock 454 would not be that much faster. The extra weight from a bbc really comes into play.

superv,
what payment details were specified in the auction? Tell him that is part of the contract between buyer and seller - negative feedback is a bitch.

I would agree with the other post that said stick with the small block if you're keeping the Alpha. You can make more than enough torque with a warmed up small block to kill the Alpha, so no need to step up to the heavier big block that will just make the problem worse. I know this because I destroyed an Alpha with a beefy 406 a few years ago! Sounds like Info's 383 might be a good deal.
