First off I read most of your post and you had me laughing through most of them....Thank you for that!! I sold my PWC's last years and am looking for a reliable boat that I can take to the ocean and the lake. Sense I live at the ocean thats where I will spending most of my time. I almost bought a sea doo challenger but I want a 4 stroke engine instead of a 2 stroke. One of my questions is do the 4 stroke boat engines acually save that much on gas? On 4 strokes theres no more oil enjection right? Last what is a good reliable boat for me in the $14,000 range (INBOARD) it can be used 1999 to 2003. Again thanks for the laughs!

For that price range and your application; you may want to look at the boats you see when you walk in to Costco wink

Chris Welcome to the boards! :D For what your looking for 14k for a 99 or newer is going to be hard to do.You say you are looking for an inboard but i think you mean I/O. I have a boat for sale right in your price range check it out it an offshore sport style boat with lots of power so you wont be looking for a new boat in a year. BTW yes 4 stroke do get better mpg and do not need oil injection. And inboards and I/O do not come in 2 strokes. Give us more info on what you want size , hp, ect. We will be able to help you better! Here is a link to my boat I will let it go for 14K

No you wont find one of those at costco. I want a 200+ hp 18 to 21 ft boat. I want a boat to ski with and one that wont take on water in the ocean so I can take it to anacapa or to catalina. If its to low in the water it wont work in the ocean.
Costco what kind do they sell at costco?

By inboard I mean I/O, an engine that doesnt hang over the back ofthe boat, an engine that is in the rear but on the bottom

You would be best off looking for used. There's alot of people that buy boats then have finacial problems or get divorced and need to off em. I've seen boats with 80 hrs on them for $16,000 that run 30 grand brand new.

Or if you get a new one you can get a 20 year loan. Alot of boat manufactures (dealers) can get anyone financed.

14K for SuperV's boat sounds like a screamin' deal to me. I'd take him up on it if I were looking for that kind of boat.
Remember, newer is not always better.

Thanks guys, but I need something a little newer, I have no mechanical skills and the first time one of those older/modified SUPER boats have any trouble I will be out of LUCK! But I can build you a Gazeebo or a entertainment center, I do have wood skills. I'll probly go with a bayliner or sea ray, or lay and wait for some poor sucker to lose his job or get devorsed/married and give up his pride and joy. By the way I did go by costco today and they dont sell boats, atlease not in my area. Infact I live in Ventura County which is a large coastal area with the population of 3/4 million people and we have 1 boat dealer, a malibu rep, now thats sad cry

Depends on what style of boat you want.a hot boat style eliminator, carrera, ultra, etc.I dont think you will find one for your price range for a 99 or newer.
Now a sea ray, maxum, monterey, etc. It is possible to find one and they have enough freeboard to take to anacapa island.and is good for the lake.A friend of mine use to own a 21 ft skiff(fishing boat)that we have taken to catalina a couple of times he also used it for the lakes too.

I have one for sale and you don't have to have any mechanical skills cuz everything has already been done. :D

If you're going offshore all the time, find a used Maxum, Searay, Wellcraft, Chaparal or Bayliner. I think they all are available with a Mercruiser 5.0 (220 HP) and a Alpha 1 outdrive. Get one with a Galvanized trailer, with bearing buddies.
Trailer Brakes will be shot every other year from salt water. I'd say a cudddy cabin is best to keep from taking water in over the bow.
Check out www.trailerboats.com (http://www.trailerboats.com) they will be more geared to those types of boats.
Good Luck.

i agree with mandelon says esp about the galvinized trailer if possible. and the brakes will go first if used alot in salt water.my dad has an open bow family boat 19 ft that we have taken to catalina a few times to go fishing never a prob his has a 302 motor and a cobra drive we put about 100-120 miles and go thru about 20 gal of fuel in the thing.

Too Bad I just sold a 96 Maxum 20'Cuddy for $14K...IT had a 5.7L with Alpha 1 and galv trailer. It was a good boat and I had no problems. I Just bought a 1999 ESSEX Sterling with 350 MAG BravoIII but had to part with $32K. Expensive but worth every penny...
