Ok Im finally going into the digital age...but I'll never get rid of my old faithful 35mm Canon :D
There are SO many digitals out there and I have no idea what Im looking at. I want something that is clear...able to zoom and take action shots. I've looked at the Sony P71 and the Mavica FD200. Are these good cameras, and does anyone have suggestions? My price range is around 500.00

I have a Sony P71 and am pretty happy with it. It is easy to use and pretty compact. It even takes good pictures. :D The zoom is really nice because it gets in pretty tight. The only thing I am doing now is trying to find a good picture program for the computer so I can start printing some pic's and making cards etc...
Any suggestions anyone, for both program & possibly a good printer?

I have the Sony P9, it rocks and is 4mega-pixels.
It will fit in a purse easily, or your jeans pocket.

I forgot the model #, but its a cannon something or other, I'll go home and post the model # & meg pix. After the waranty, extra memory card, rechargable batteries, it ran me $530 out the door. So far so good, 90% of my pictures in the image center are from my digital camera. :D From what I understand the higher the meg pix is the better quality you get when you start to print 8x10's & up.

A couple of years ago, there were some cameras that really stood out. A lot of excellent cameras were announced at PMA this year. The ratio of great cameras to good cameras has gone way up. There are really solid cameras in the lines of all of the major brands.
I think the Canon PowerShot A70 is one of the best camera values on the market right now. It goes for $350 most places ($290 if you want to order from the web) but it is a great little camera. It has decent optics, takes 4 AA so you don't have to buy expensive and unique lithium batteries, and it takes compact flash memory cards.
Whatever camera you decide on, consider getting a flash reader for your computer. They don't cost very much and once you have one you will never want to mess with cables again.

Nikon makes some really good cameras. They haven't been dropping their prices like the other brands have but this rebate brings them somewhat inline with where I think they ought to be.
-----
Nikon USA has today announced a series of rebates on its Coolpix line. Purchase a new Nikon Coolpix 2000,2500,3500,4500,5000 or 5700 digital camera from Nikon Inc, Nikon authorized dealers or distributors from April 1, 2003 through June 30, 2003, and receive between $50 and $200 back.

I have the cannon power shot A70. great camera. Perfect for general use, but it can also handle some advanced stuff as well. 3.2 mega pixels, 3x optical zoom. very easy to use. I paid $315 at best buy 3 weeks ago. Total out the door was $450 with all the extra stuff I bought. I guess it wasnt over $500, like I thought. :D
