Not 470HP!
If you scroll down there's this surprising information revealed by the seller:
On Oct-08-03 at 05:59:03 PDT, seller added the following information:
I am getting info from various sources that this is a 470 engine and NOT 470hp. I apologise for any confusion. The 470 engine originally had 170hp but this was rebuilt, bored .30 over, so the hp has increased dramatically. I will be intouch with the owner later in the day (he's a teacher) and will try to determine the actual hp of this engine. No matter what the hp, this engine is still an animal.
Yeah, now there's an Ebay sales pitch for you..."no matter what the hp, this engine is still an animal."

I have an old baja bowrider that has a mercruiser 470 170hp engines. It was and may still be one of the best low cost decent hp for the weight engines used in the mass produced cookie cutter boats. The cooling system on this engine can be adapted to something a little better and the alternator setup needs to be changed. (originally an internal behind the dampner alternator with a water cooled voltage regulator). I have a 17 foot boat with seating for 7. Decent stereo and a 17 gallon fuel tank. I can run most of the day to all day on a tank of fuel and run in the low to mid 40's. May not be fast but at least I can go to the lake while the Hondo is being redone.
