View Full Version : backing into slips

my hubby and i went from an 18' carrera to a 29 foot nordic last may. when we go up to the bridge at havasu, we pull into a slip but then can hardly get out of the boat. we thought if we backed in it would be a heck of a lot easier to get in and out. how hard is that to do, backing in i mean? eek!

I do it all the time. The key is patience. You'll drift sideways before you begin backing, so the slower you go, the less drift. Make sure you are lined up with a straight shot backing into the slip.
If you drift too much sideways, don't try to correct while backing (an exercise in frustration)...start over again.

91 nordic sure has a lot of questions. Reminds me when I first joined. by the way did anyone help you with your avatar question? I lost site of your thread. If no one has, go into the test forum, everyone asks the same question. I would write it out for you, but I cant teach for sh**. :D

It's funny, I saw a post on here not to long ago about how the people with the bigger boats were just trying to look cool by backing into the slips. wink
It gets easy to do after a while, I always back in now.

I hope cannon boy didn't cause you too much trouble, 91nordic. I'll tone it down for a while. :)

that's what i thought until we bought this one. you cant get out half the time. the carrera was practically flat and you could step right out. but this closed bow and deep hull. that along with short legs and there you have it. look like an idiot trying to get out of that thing. :p

that's okay, tom. i was getting pretty good at closing the window when i heard someone coming.

I take it you didn't pop for the egress trebuchet option?

91nordic29
04-17-2003, 01:27 PM
what in the heck is that?

Tom Brown
04-17-2003, 01:31 PM
Now that I think about it, I think Nordic dropped the trebuchet option in 98.
Can't you just use one of those Rubbermaid steps to help out?

Tom Brown
04-17-2003, 01:40 PM
91nordic, this is the brocure for the egress trebuchet. You just fasten this device down to your deck, preferrably using a Hilti gun, and it will assist you to the dock. I don't think the two person model will fit on the 29.

Tom, I didn't think there was much acid around any more. But you appear to have a steady supply. You'll have to get me some.

SCUBA STEVE

you have to go into the avatar option, then paste it in the url down at the bottom. then set the url, go back to the top and hit select this avatar. you should be good to go from there. I hope that helps. I am not the best teacher.

sorry nordic29, I was lost track of this thread again  you want it to be your avatar right? when you see the picture up as your avatar, press "selecet this avatar" and it should lock it in for you. if that doesnt help I dont know what is going on. it took me a couple of days to figure it out too, even with jetboatrich helping me.I am not too computer friendly. get the url from this pic.

Give it another go. You're almost there. :)

you got it to come up in your avatar, where your current avatar is right? if you did it should be $. wipe out your current avatar and start again.
make sure you only have 1 http in your custom url before you set it.

There's nothing wrong with the image. If you can get that image to display in the avatar page, just click "Use This Avatar" and then on the next page "Update Profile". It will be there. It takes a few minutes to show up on the forum.
I'm sure you'll get it figured out. Why not give it another try?
I'm going to use your avatar for a few hours this afternoon. Let's call it "testing". I feel like more of a man with that kick ass Nordic displayed under my name.

91nordic29
04-21-2003, 09:54 AM
i dont know why it wont work. maybe i didnt wait long enough. the pic that you are using isnt very good. cant read the name on it.
now i have another problem ( i am making quite a messd of my profile)
i tried to put a picture (the one you are using) in my signature box and all that shows up is the address. i cant delete it either!
boy, oh boy.

SCUBA STEVE

well it seems to be off now, since it didnt come up on your last post, if you want the picture to come up with your signature, just add in the front and at the end of the url. I think I saw a post earlier today with the picture as your signature, I could be wrong?

woul i be able to see the picture too or just the address?

Tom Brown

Hey, you're changing the picture instead of adding a second one. It went blank for me just now too. If you email the stern view shot to me, I'll put it online so you can use it.

Here's a link to a different side view thumbnail that you might like.

91nordic29, give the link I've posted above a try as an avatar. :)
Where can I find the stern view shot?
I've just posted a medium size shot too. It's in my signature. :)

tom brown seem like you got this coverd! :D
my question to you would be how do you change the size of the pictures. in the image center you only have 3 choices right, small, large & extra large.

my question to you would be how do you change the size of the pictures. in the image center you only have 3 choices right, small, large & extra large. Changing the size is easy. Here's how to do it:
1st) get your own server
2nd) put whatever size stuff you like on it
3rd) let your buddies use it for their boat pics
:)
I'll be happy to host whatever size avatar or signature pic you like. :)
