Mariners can expect to see a greater Coast Guard presence on the water and in the air. Boaters should be prepared to show picture identification and may be questioned about their activity, particularly if they are operating or loitering in an area that might be of concern. Under Operation Liberty Shield, boaters should:
Be aware of existing security zones and Restricted Navigation Areas (RNA)
Stay at least 100 yards clear of any Navy vessel and maintain slow speed and comply with directions when within 500 yards of any Navy ship.
Monitor VHF-FM channel 16 for CG boating safety and security broadcasted information.
Avoid areas and activities that might be perceived as threatening or suspicious.
Be alert and report any suspicious or unusual activity to the Coast Guard or local law enforcement. The National Response Center Terrorism Hotline is: 1-800-424-8802
Be prepared to be stopped or questioned by the CG or local law enforcement, particularly if you are boating near tunnels, bridges, restricted areas or port facilities.
Information on waterways restrictions is available at any time on the U. S. Coast Guard Port Operations Information Line at 1-800-682-1796 or online: http://www.uscg.mil/safeports

There is a dare for ya.
Wrap your towel on your head and run wide open at a Navy ship. Be sure it is a supply vessel and not a destroyer.
Sorry Sharkey I could not resist.
Do not have those worries in Oklahoma.

If your towel is multicolored you could always find someone with a baby and borrow a diaper to wrap around your head...

When it comes to the Coasties, they take their job very seriously. We ran a Poker Run the weekend after 9/11/01. They called in the middle of our drivers meeting and said anyone found going over 45 mph they will have shots fired over their bows. eek! eek! eek! That made many of us nervous. We understood though because we had to pass an airport as well as a ship yard. We were just happy they would let us run. At first they didn't want us running the event at all... eek!
