I had a Great Dane at one time. He was a great dog. He was Brindle colored. The only bad thing was the huge Land Mines in the back yard!!! yuk
If I ever get this God Dam scanner to work. I would post a picture of him. burningm

I gotta old puppy. 5 months old next week and 60 pounds.
Drools about a gallon a day, and has a tail that'll clear a coffee table in a split second.
But I love him. :D

Alan, what kind of a dog is that?

Sampson's a Bloodhound.
I'm training him in cadaver and water searches for drowning victims.
His mom is already a tracker, so I don't need another one of those, and his daddy is a search hound up in Yavapai County. (Prescott area)
Here's Mom. (Pepper)

http://www.boatcop.com/10_03.jpg Great for those after dinner coffee table cleanup sessions in front of the tv. one pass, it's all on the floor so it can be easily scooped up. Leftovers are eaten so there's no mess there either. :D
Congrats Tina on the pup. :D

I would like to see a picture of your little Lucy. I have a friend who had a long haired Chihuahua, she was all white and very cute. This little hair ball loved to take your socks off your feet and hide them under a bed. :D

We have a chihuahua named Monty. Still a pup but did very well in the river heat this summer. s\Shade and plenty of water kept him in good shape. Likes the water, too. Never thouoght I'd have one, but not too bad once you get used to him!

missboatnam1,
My dog got parvo a week after I adopted her....and she was only a couple months old. I put her in the hospital immediately. She was in there for a week and pulled through it. :)
About the 4th or 5th day she was in there she couldn't eat anything, and it wasn't looking good....but the next morning she was able to eat her food and keep it down, then she was released by the 7th day.
Just keep hope alive. Dogs CAN pull through parvo...as long as they get the medical attention asap.
Hope for the best! :)

I'm sorry to hear that. The place you got her from is responsible to either pay vet bills or refund you or replace the puppy. I hope she is ok. Parvo is very bad.

shes only 8 weeks old, and weighs 1.5 pounds...the place i bought her said without a hickup they would refund the money for her, the vet called them, i dident even know he was going to do that, so that was nice.
its just that shes so small, its so stupid but i cant stop crying, i feel so bad for her.
i just hope she pulls thru. they say to give her a couple of days, and see how she is doing.....if not they will put her to sleep friday. cry
thank you guys for the info....

:( - I am so sorry to hear that. My little lab (Captain) had it when he was a puppy (10 years ago) and he made it. So while it is not good - there is hope and we will keep watch for Lucy updates.

They offer surgery these days on dogs that drool alot (Bloodhounds, Great Dane's, etc)that reduces their drooling to pretty much nothing.
Thought I'd let you know if you didn't already.

Thanks. If they were just pets I'd consider it. But with tracking bloodhounds, everything serves a purpose.
Bloodhound 101:
Big long noses - greater number of olafactory nerves for detecting and processing scent.
Wrinkled faces - Collects the scent molecules.
Droopy eyelids - Protects the eyes from brush when on track.
Long ears - Drag on the ground and stirs up the scent.
Drooling - Moisture intensifies the scent.
As you can see all those things are needed. These dogs are pretty much a total package.
Who am I to mess with thousands of years of breeding? :D
PS: Good luck with the little one, Tina. It really tears me up when something like that happens. The Parvo-virus is nasty, but it can be treated.

My Lucy.....Rott/Lab(or something else) mix.
She weighed 3.8 lbs. when we got her. She was about 4 weeks old. She is now 7 months. We call her the moose now. She weighs about 55 lbs. She has a tail that will put holes in the dry wall. eek!

Funny, my mother's name is Pepper. No relation though.
I have a 13" (smaller style @ 20lbs.) beagle with a nose that won't quit. Her nose drives me nuts when we walk. She bawls like nuts when she picks up a scent. I have always loved hound dogs....yours is a beauty Alan.

SO sorry to hear about little lucy. Your heart must be breaking. I got so attached to my little guy in the first few days, I couldn't imagine having to go through that.
Hope she pulls through, I know it's not about the money when you adopt one of these little guys.

http://www.boatcop.com/10_03.jpg Other than the two Queensland Heelers I have now, I've always had Black & Tans & Walkers. I love Hounds. Only thing is, you couldn't pay me enough to own a blood hound. My dad has one (Bubba). He's about a year old. That dog is a handfull. He opens doors, sits in the water tank for the horses when he has his own pool and the list goes on. He's eaten a full pack of Camels, five Arturo Fuente Reserve, and a pair of Bausche & Laumb binnoculars. All the things he's eaten has been within the last month.

tina, call me...751-4323. I have alot to tell you. I hope lucy pulls thru. It is so sad when a pet is sick like that and there is nothing you can do but pray and hope for the best. I have seen dogs that do recover from parvo. The good news is, after they do, they are immune to it.

Tina,
I didn't read all the posts. I hope your little one is pulling through. One of my hound pups had parvo. We got lucky with him, but he was in ICU at the doggy hospital for a week.
