It looks like we have a very similar hull - from the water's perspective. Mine is 22.5' from the tip of the nose to the back of the hull. 24' to the swim platform. The pad on mine is fairly narrow and still has a bit of a v to it. I probably carry more weight than you since I have (appears to have) more freeboard.
But I bet our hp per mph is quite close. What speed/prop/rpm/weight do you see?

1984 Chaparral 21XLC
Not really a "hot" boat but I do run it offshore, palm beach to key largo , palm beach to lauderdale.
Haven't made the run out to Bimini yet in it (did it once in a 17ft Formula! :D )
,maybe this summer. not too bad for a 20yr old production 21 footer.
350/300mag, pretty dry ride in up to 2-3 ft seas. No nice
offshore pics yet, have to talk someone into following me out one day to do get some. :)

Prop- 23p 3 blade Mirage
RPM- I've seen it get up to around 5300

That's great speed for a stock 365hp 454Mag! I have high hopes of swinging a 23p 3 blade this summer after the head/intake upgrades currently in the works.
Do you have any engine mods?

Imco exhaust and thats it. Had a hard time last summer pulling the rpm's though. I need to check my timing. I think it may be off now. Probably some timing chain stretch. Haven't checked it in a couple years. Either that or my valve springs are finally going away. The motor is 16 years old so it may be getting due.

Ya I've been pretty shocked myself. I keep telling myself I'm gonna have to go through it at the end of the season. Well I've been saying that for 5 years now. It just keeps going. Doesn't really use any oil and compression is good. I know my valve stem seals are leaking but she keeps running. :rollside:

Cool. I need to get the 454Mag modeled in DeskTop Dyno. The I could use that power data with the speeds we've seen to calibrate a drag curve. Your boat is the second data point I've been waiting for!

Sorry for the slow reply - you know, work and all that stuff :)
We have a pair of HO's running 28 pitch bravo 1's that will get us loaded to an honest :p 75 gps.
The mid cabin is great! enough room for me to sit upright along either 6' long benches (I'm 6'4"). Makes a great place for quick storage or to get outa the sun for a nap. Or sleepover when the Turtle gets too rough

I just got the 454 Mag 365hp set up in Desk Top Dyno. It show a jump to 444hp at 5,500rpm by upgrading stock exhaust, adding single plane intake, and using a Crane 134561 cam. Since you already have the exhaust, you'd get there with a ~$150 (ebay) intake and a ~$130 cam. You'd probably be wise to go to new valve springs and roller rockers at the same time. But given all that, that's a nice bump for almost no jack - uses your bone stock bottom end!

Bottom end is good. I think my heads are ready to be pulled. Its got good compression and doesn't really burn any oil. I'm thinking of doing a whole topend. From cam/heads on up. I've got aluminum heads on my mind. :rollside: :rollside:

The one I was looking at before I stumbled on my 781's were the Edelbrock Performer RPM Oval ports. Best bang for the buck I could find.
I guess it depends on your budget and goals. If you are looking for the best hp/$ return on investment it looks like freshing up the head you have would be the best route to go. It's all about budget, goals, time, etc...fun stuff to think about!

This may be (probably) a dumb question but is there any difference in the salt
content of the water on the Cali side? Stuff here is like acid.
I see a lot of parts/engine combos bieng run out there that
seemingly would not last a single season in the water here..
Inquiring minds want to know..

Is this the same hull/mold that Ultra and Cobra use on their 23' boats by chance? Ive got a 23' Cobra Razor and looks almost identical from that view.

She's going to get wet next week maybe. We're just going to fire it up the first time this Saturday.Weight should be around 6000 * .Have to haul it to a scale first. 35' total length with the overhang at the transom, double stepped hull. 620 rated HP ,we'll run it with a small prop for breaking it in , before the final decision on the proper prop.

Update on the 572 . Fired up yesterday morning . No leaks no hiccups . Here's a very short video . Have the Drew muffler inserts with shotgun tips. Boat idles nice at 800 rpm ,but can be taken down to 600 if shifting will be a problem . Even though we have no noise cops yet around here , we got the dB meter out and measured 76 dB at idle , 96 dB at 4000 rpm right behind the exhausts . WOT still over 100 .

Have you straight checked the bottom?
Formula loved to build in a lot of hook in the rear of the bottom
in the 80s to get them to stay on plane easier. Taking it out will pick you up
a bunch of mph. You can almost make it out in the pics where the strake stays level but the rearmost bottom hooks down .

Update on the ZZ 572 single engined canopy boat .
We splashed my buddy's boat today for the first time. 3 yrs in the works , but finally out of the drive way :rollside: . Everything went without a hitch, only the power steering gave us a little trouble at the end . No biggie ! Some graphics will be in the works sometime later. Here are some videos to check out. Boat has a muffler and Drew shotgun tail. Boat gets on plane with no tabs installed and cruising nicely at 3000 rpm . It still needs to be broken in gently with a 24P 4 blade . Didn't get on the secondaries yet, so it's promising .

Some specs and info on your Shockwave...
29 Shockwave with twin 496 Mag HO's closed bow. 280S K-Plane Tabs, Autometer pro comp guages and sea strainers. We picked it up right before Desert Storm and took it out for the poker run. We didn't run in the poker run, but we got it up to 80 the first time out. We are planning on using it in the ocean most of the time, because we live in Huntington. :)

Hey Dawn I saw your boat at Havasu Springs a couple of times during desert storm. All I can say is awesome. That is the biggest damn 29' I have ever seen its amazing. How fast do you think it's gonna run when everythings said and done?

Thanks, that was our first trip out. I think I will get about 80 to 83. :) What size is your boat? Yours looks like the same size as mine. :rollside:

I see your previous Top Gun down where I launch in Newport. Is it for sale again?
