This motor is being tested in Japan. It makes 100,000 horsepower at 101 rpm. The bore is 3' and the stroke is 8', its a 12 cylinder. Here is a picture of the crank, flywheel, and block. This is real guys, I have 3 more pics of different parts of it to post throughout the day. Enjoy! http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/383Sulzer_2-med.jpg

Must have been one big crank grinder for that thing. Would hate to undergrind a journal and scrap that crank.

isnt that for the new battleship race boats? or the 100mph air craft carriers?

I think I'd want to be out of the room if that thing breaks a rod

I think thats a joint venture between NASA and Japan. If I`m not mistaken it supposedly will move the Earth out of harms way if a giant meteor is on a direct path to collide. Sorry, but its not gonna turn a wind prop but instead an air jet. wink

Whats the GPH? of fuel? Gallons per hour of fuel is 1660, and its a 2 stroke Deisel. Shouldnt it turn more RPM. Im no two stroke guy but they should make that thing turn about 10,000 rpm and try her out! :D
Also: How many guys is it supposed to take to lay in a main bearing?

Is it just me or is that 12 cylinder missing two cylinders?
I love the rungs that let people climb down into the rod slots.
All of us 2 stroke guys wear those cotton booties when we're doing a build...
Cool pictures. :)

The data is on the 12 cyl , but they do make a 8, 10, or 12 cyl. Must be the 10 in the picture.

I've seen this before, and the text with it said that 101 rpm is considered over reving for a test........Moneypitt

Sweet,I wonder if they could install that in my big truck?Might need taller gears to pull 70mph at 101RPM!!!Do you have to downshift at 80RPM or 75?What's the redline?98 or 99 RPM?

I hear that Westech has the Dyno rights to it! I also heard that it will have a big DNE sticker on the valve cover!

One thing I noticed. How is this thing balanced? The reciprocating assembly. I know its not too many rpms, but still thats alot of mass to be slingin`.

I dug up the following link:
http://www.sdia.or.jp/mhikobe-e/products/diesel/index.html
It looks like Mitsubishi makes big diesels for
tankers and power plants. It might be the same
stuff...

I kinda feel guilty guys. This info was e-mailed to me from one of my engine buddies. I thought I had more than enough info to post the pics on the board. But now you guys got me wondering about this thing. I got a feeling though they dont balance this motor. , Ill bet at 100 rpms, that thing is barely going around 1 1/2 times per sec, whats a pound here or there gonna do? :D Here is a piston for you all to enjoy.
