From the local rag...
FONTANA - NASCAR Winston Cup is making a second stop at California Speedway.
Capacity crowds and the lure of the second-largest media market in the country has earned the speedway a second Winston Cup race each season.
Speedway officials have scheduled a news conference for Friday morning during which NASCAR will announce a second Winston Cup stock car race for Fontana starting in 2004.
Sources in the racing industry said Fontana will get a second NASCAR race on Labor Day weekend starting next season.

Winston Cup races are generally ran on Sundays. My wife works in the Nascar corporate office in Century City and confirmed it's a Sunday night race.

" :o A pair of news conferences have been scheduled for Friday at Darlington Speedway and California Speedway.
It is expected that International Speedway Corporation, the owners of both California Speedway and North Carolina Speedway, will announce that it is moving its 2004 fall Winston Cup date from Rockingham to California.
It has also been reported that Darlington Raceway will move its traditional Labor Day race to later in the season and give the Labor Day spot to Fontana.
A news release was sent out at about 3 p.m. Tuesday by California Speedway proclaiming that "a major addition to California Speedway's 2004 racing schedule will be announced" at their news conference.
A couple of hours later, Darlington Raceway sent a similar release, inviting media to a "press conference to announce Darlington Raceway and North Carolina Speedway's 2004 racing schedule."

I heard that from an insider a month or so ago but was told to keep it under wraps. I did such a good job of it that I actually forgot. Since I shy away from the river on big weekends (21' jet boat syndrome)Fontana is where I'll be.
