I have a 99 Checkmate ZT280 with 502 mag, Brovo One drive, Corsa Quick and Quiet exhausts.... I am running a 15 1/4 X 23 4 blade SS Prop and it runs 60mph at 4200rpm.
Can anyone help me in selecting a prop to make my boat go faster???
Thanks!
BOB

Bob, I am having a similar problem with my 25 Outlaw with 502. I am only getting about 4400 RPM @ 61 mph. I talked to the Baja Factory and prior to delivery they tested the boat at 4800 RPM @ 68mph. Currently the boat is at the shop to find out why my 502 is acting like a 350. I'll let you know if I find something out. The tech rep at the factory I talked to said the ECM is probally not working properly but the motor should definently be turning out more rpm and power. If your motor is good I have been hearing and reading a lot of good things about the hydromotive 4 blade. There was also an article in ***boat a bit ago about a 280 Checkmate. Check the archives in this website, there may have the prop listed.

Nice boat Bob ! I just sold my Checkmate and it was my 3rd mate. It sounds like that motor isnt turning the rpms it should, every checkmate I had always was right on the rev limiters which should be about 5000 rpms. Have you called Mike at checkmate, he should be able to tell you exactly what that boat should do with that 502. You could verify the rpm to see if your tach in the boat is coerrect. I would guess 65 mph is a good number for your boat with that 502, my 25' ran 70 with a 502.

Thanks for the reply and information!! I agree that the rpms should be higher. I will try to contact Mike at Checkmate this week. I would appriciate any addition information you come across.
Thanks again,
BOB
