i live in wisconsin and we are being harrased by our local dnr. my brother has mufflers and i have shot gun silencers on my daytona. but they are not going to be under 86 decibals he runs a 28 profile. cut offs are illegal. is there some trick to make it quieter they are going to test us next week they didnt have ther meter with them this time. some one once told me to put steel wool in my exhaust atleast for the test any ideas. it would greatly be appreciated. a vacum cleaner is louder than 86 dbs we feel because our boats stand out so much we are beeing picked on. all they have up here are bayliners and pontoons

Have you looked into 'silent choice' exhaust? Switchs from transom to outdrive.

I have "Captian's call" exhaust made by Corsa and this system drastically reduces noise levels by routing the exhaust through the transom with the flick of a switch. It works very well, however as far as exact noise levels I don't have any definite information. How sticky are these guys on the 86 Db??If you have done everything you can to make the boat as quiet as possible, would they maybe say ok??

i cut offs are illegal. As stated in dallas' post, anything such as Silent Choice or Captains Call are illegal....coming soon to a state near you......

The dnr told me that unless you have through prop that you will not pass. Of course, silent choice is illegal in Wisconsin because the system must be full time. Call up CMI, they have some new mufflers coming out that are actually affordable and effective. Too bad they still are ugly. frown

It doesn't look good for ya. I bet even if you meet the db rating you will continue to be harassed.
Aint it a shame. The jet ski's cutting in front of you are not the problem, your noise is.

JOE, I TALKED TO THE MEN IN BROWN YESTERDAY. THE WAY YOU ARE GOING TO BE TESTED IS 4 FEET FROM THE BACK OF YOUR BOAT AT A 45 DEG. ANGLE AT IDLE. I THINK ED WILL PASS.

Run more water out the exhaust for the test.

Freak isn't that the "you in a heap o trouble boy" routine?
If you have enough room on the end of your pipe, try putting in a silencer at the end, bolted from the outside. Nice thing about that, it just unbolts!
Also more water works too. Although thats hard to do at idle.
Sorry to hear about your gustapo problems!

I say put the steel wool in one of the sections in your mufflers and should last long enough to take the test!

Check out HPI Silencers. They will do the job for sure. Put some on mine and now I sound like a Sea Ray, lol. They aint cheap though. I bought the clamp ons for when I need them.
