Actually RD, most of the mortgage brokers I know work on a commission basis, similar to Real Estate agents. So yes, the answer is in a lot of cases they do work for free, it is the nature of the business. For loans there is often an application fee that is collected before the process starts and would be conisdered non- refundable if the loan didn't go through. If I posted an angry message everytime someone wasted mine or my wife's time looking at property they didn't buy or even using another agent to write the contract after spending significant amount of time with them my post count would probably be as high as yours.
I don't know the details of this case and there may have been contracts signed saying money is owed. But that is something between the 2 parties and possibly the courts, nothing I want to see on a hot boat board.

I'm not getting involved with this one, but let me say this. We went to Tony and got our house refinanced by him. Tony did an ABSOLUTELY OUTSTANDING job and worked hard on it and earned every penny (and then some). He kept us informed throughout the process, sometimes even talking to us after regular business hours. And....the great thing is, WE ARE NOW SAVING LOTSA $$ THANKS TO TONY.
