I have been looking at a 2000, 247 Ultra with a 377 Scorpion. Nothing special outside of the motor which has 166 hours. The dealer wants 47K for this thing that is 3 years old.
John West quoted me 53K for a brand new 247 with the colors I want and a 496 that makes 50 more HP.
Am I out of line in thinking this is way over priced?

Am I out of line in thinking this is way over priced? I'm kinda curious if that's a good price period. The new that is. I'm looking at about $50k for a 22 stealth, depending on what BS I get, for them to drop the motor I bring it. That includes a trailer and they drop the engine I bring in. I'm looking at about $15K for my engine. But then again I'm getting pretty much the same boat that John West has powercoated jet and all. I'm getting a different, lower matinence material for the interior and it's cheaper on top of it all. That sounds good for all the BS imaginable.

thor, i would definitely go with the new one. you'll get the boat YOU want and not colors that someone else picked. plus it will be fully warranted.

Come on thor, new is the better deal. What did they teach you at AUBURN? lol
Serious new does sound like the way to go. The only bad thing is your going to have to wait to get it built.

I would think the dealer would be very negotiable on the 2000 ultra. If not that is awesome resale value for the Ultra and you definately couldnt go wrong with the new one for 6 grand more.

know why the used one is for sale? I'd bet money that it's under powered with that 377. 377 nice for a 21 ft boat but 24+ft no way. get the new with the 496 and the WARENTY.you'll be stoked in the long run.

Thor,
If your gonna buy used, and you really like that hull...why not find a 24ft. DCB Extreme.I would be willing to bet Havasu Hangin' has a line on a couple.
As far as new...Your colors, warranty, slightly lower interest rate.
Plus you get the 6k back at the back end if and when you go to sell the boat.
Just my 02.

Just my 02. Actually, the Ultra 247 is the old DCB extreme, but it is really hard to find those.
I was trying to be nice to the dipshit sales guy (not Ultra) and tell him that the 496 will be better in the future for things like a whipple. But, the dumbass did pick up what I was layin' down.
I have only seen 2 DCB extremes for sale in the last year. They must be really bitchin if nobody is selling them.

Am I out of line in thinking this is way over priced? I like the Ultra 247. But have you been in one? It's a smaller boat than you own now. Are you really going to down size?

Thor,
I knew the Ultra was the ex.DCB... :D
I mentioned it because Havasu Hangin' posted pictures of one that was for sale not to long ago.
There is a guy in pheonix who always has a couple of used DCB's for sale,I believe that his name is Tom (southwest re-marketing.He had a 24Extreme w/525sc merc for sale not to long ago.Not trying to dissuade you from the Ultra.
Before I bought my first 25Eagle I talked to Dave about his 24Extreme....Damn nice boat but it is kinda small,I think it only has a 93 in. beam.
good luck,keep us posted.

The 377 runs 72MPH in that boat. If you're going to buy the used one, give me a call first, I know the entire history on it. Dude! If I didn't know better (disclaimer: I've only met Mr. West one time; so this is a joke), I'd say you're a class act! (BTW, he is a class act! The part about me not knowin' better is THE joke!)

Thor, if you get a new one, make sure to keep the "pink stripe" tradition going!! :D :D J/K
If you had been with us the day before the beta event, you could have checked out "nashvillebound's" 247, it's a sweet, fast ride! It is the same as the 22 Extreme DCB with a built-in swim step. Nice ride, but it would not be upsizing if compared to your current Edge. :D

How fast does the 247 run with a 496 HO?
Do they make whipples for the scorpion? That would seem like the ticket. :p

:) I have only met John a few times, but my dad has a bitchin Stealth with American flag graphics that he bought from John. He loves it and has nothing but good stuff to say about his entire experience there at Ultra. Good people (even though the owner drives a jet. j/k)
