Well I am back from the long 8-day fishing adventure aboard the Excell out of Fisherman's Landing.
What a trip!!! Left on June 27th with perfect flat calm sea's on our way south looking for trophy Tuna.
Well the first day started with some Albacore ranging from 20-30 lbs and some smaller Bluefin Tuna around 30-40 lbs.
On Sunday Morning we awoke to the skipper on the PA informing us we had a big school of 100 lb Bluefin under the boat. Well after drifting with this school all day we ended up with 43 Bluefin tuna with 30+ over 100 lbs.
If you have never caught a big tuna before it's like tying your line to the back of a truck and trying to stop it.
We lost numerous fish and lots of gear. There were reels blowing up, Rod's breaking and many other casualties. What a site to see in person. Many fish were lost after over two hours fighting them.

I was on fire and landed (5) of the fish 60lbs, 75lbs, 121lbs, 122lbs, and the biggest fish of 156lbs.
122lb Bluefin Tuna

156lb Bluefin Tuna

This is Alijos Rocks which is located 500 miles South of Point Loma and around 300 Miles off the coast of Baja.

We caught some nice grade Yellowtail.
http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/500/55Alijos_Yellowtail-med.jpg
This is a picture of a 74.2 lb Yellowtail that had just spawned and had an empty belly, this fish would have weighed into the 85-90 lb class and a possible world record if caught pre spawn.

Here is a picture of my Jackpot winning 156 lb Bluefin Tuna on the scales with the Skipper of the boat.

The top three fish
156lb, 143lb, & 135lb

Well I had some of it done up into fish jerky, it's the bomb. wink
I do all of my own canning, I use only Albacore (white tuna) and or Bluefin. I add Jalapeno's to it and it is really tasty in sandwiches or salads. :D
I will give away almost as much fresh as I can give away. :D
I will same some for the barbeque and to cook on the boat out at the lake.
I will be giving a Bluefin to my mom's friend, who owns Lo's restaurant in Havasu (the only sushi bar). :D
I usually freeze very little.

Yes we rolled over the blues about 470 miles south and about 30+ from Alijos Rocks.
Had a giant meter mark in the gray around 5:00am and threw massive scoops of bait and got them going.
They stayed with us until dark, as we plucked away all day on different schools.
The new Skipper is Sean Steward he was the second.
Pat has bought his own boat the Pacific Dawn and is running a long range style service for 1 to 2 day trips, should be a hot boat in the future.
No Kite fish all on the drift soaking baits almost 300-400 yards out.
FYI probably old news, Pat's brother Bill bought the Pacific Queen

MIKE-F,
It was not a troll fish I caught it on bait, fin was broke trying to get it out the fish hold.
You know hard those fish fight and bluefin fight harder than any tuna, including Yellowfin and Bigeye.
I fought a 120 lbs fish and lost it at gaff,
then landed a 121 lb fish,
and a 122 lb fish, before I caught the 156 lb. fish.
It was a great and I will be on in 2004 and 2005.
This trip is probaly almost sold out already for next year.

That's a nice yellow. Last year i got a 45# but it looked like a dwarf becasue we got 4 over 65 on the trip. Hooked one but got rocked.

You got Slowpokes spot. He fizzled at the last minute so he could go to the river and dial in his Howard. We're going to talk bad about him the whole trip but he'll never know. LOL
They decked 17 fish over 100#'s yesterday and then the BIG DOGS moved in and beat the hell out of them. They decked 11 of those.
It's a great group of guys we'll even get t-shirts.
Should we car pool?

Looks like I will be bringing the big gear. for our trip just in case. Bring the haevy tackle for sure, I'm bringing all my gold. There is a huge spread of these fish, the only problem is once the seiners start working 'em they sink out and won't come up and bite. I've sat on huge meter marks for days trying to get 'em to play and no go.
You'll have a good time with this charter. Lori filled just two spots so everyone knows each other and knows how to fish. Have you fished the AA with Sam and Brian?
Sink a seiner, save a tuna!

I think i have only fished with them on 1 trip laast year. I have been on the boat for years though. I am doing this trip, a 10 day in October and a 14 day fly back in december. I am bringing all the gold too, hopefully the seiners won't hammer it and we get a good shot at em.
