Carlisle tires, Re Killed

With only 2000 miles on my Extreme trailer I had a blowout, the Carlisle tire disintregrating. If you pick up a puncture on the road,, the tire will soon disintregrate as it looses air.
The difference between Carlisle and Goodyear has been debated,, but I have about the same luck with both.
I suggest to anyone to carry the Gorilla wheel wrench set, thinwall. It got me through the day.
The trailer tires, the spare mounting nuts, My GMC's tow rigs wheels all different lug sizes.
Carlisle told me over the phone, their tires are made by Goodyear. The warranty claim Carlisle sent was for Goodyear.
Probably so, check the comparison with my GoodYear spare I bought to replace the Carlisle:

Check out that the Goodyear spare is the same tire (at least appearance wise) as the Crummy Carlisles.
I suggest to anyone to lock your spare.
We've all passed people on Rice road with blowouts and some are desperate, and steal spares off others to save their vacation. Happens all the time at Emerald Cove in Parker.

I am the #1 HATER of these tires. 2 blowout, 2 different times in 112 degree heat on the way to the river. Tires were less than 7 months old...properly inflated and another kick in the ass...The tire place went out of business the pricks. :mad:

What does that tell ya?
Probably more boat trailers with Carlisles along that stretch of real estate than anyplace and they have no business rep???
Probably 30 tire stores along this stretch too.
They know they sell crap.

I ran Goodyear Eagle RHs, 255/70/R15s on my truck. Every one of them have failed with a ton of tread left on them. Separation, bubbles, or outright self destruction.
Now running BF Goodrich Radial T/As. Same size. Had one of them bubble on the way to Ely Nevada about a month ago. Replaced with 100% Warranty.
I'll stick with Discount Tire Co. There's a new shop in Havasu, and their warranty replacement can't be beat.

We just got back from a trip up to Okleehoma, a wifey family reunion. It was around 500 miles. Took the bowrider, 5500 lbs. riding on four Carlisles. No problemo again, prolly have 7,000 miles on this set.....
I had a blowout back in '99, since then I have run 50 PSI in the tires and have had no problems. I firmly believe that almost all trailer tire failures (regardless of brand) are due to underinflation. Sidewall flex is the culprit, builds heat bigtime.
It says 50 PSI cold on the sidewall, try it. I notice a 10 PSI difference in one tire, they work a lot better for me at max pressure.

Well if my new Nankang tires go, I'll try the Discount Tire in Havasu as well. If they blow...I'll throw them right through the front plate glass window just like the old lady in the commercials. :D
On my Carlisles..I did have 50 psi....I'm anal about pressure because I know how hot these roads get and changing a tire on rte 68 in Golden Valley is no fun.

I had a problem with my Carlise tires a couple of months ago. I was on my way home from No. Cal. It was a defect. I called them and had 5 new tires sent out in less then a week. They said that were having a problem with that size, 205/70R14. They replaced them with a size up 215/70R14. They have done great for the rest of the summer. I can't say enough about the service that the Rep gave me. E-mail if you need any info. I have several friends with Extreme Trailers that have all been taken care like I was.Getting a flat sucks, but at least they stood behind their tire. :D :D

When my 5th wheel was 2 yrs old I blew all 5 of the Carlisles!!!! (4 and the spare) Two went in one trip. The start bubling and seperating. My buddy had them on his trailer and he blew 2 of them this trip on the way out.
I dont like them.

The trailer for my 21 Skier had Carlisle's on it, and I had 3 blow outs in 8 trips to Havasu, and now my trailer for my Tremor has had 2 blowouts in 4 trips out to Havasu.
I'm switching all of them over to the TowMaster tires from Big O. The trailer that I had for my quads did not have a blow out in a hundred trips to Glamis!

Carlisle's Suck! I had them on my trailer with a 27' Advantage. After 1 trip from Havasu to Corona they were falling apart. The trailer manufacturer would not help unless I wanted to buy more Carlisle tires while they investigated the problem tire. (OK that's what I want to do spend more money on junk tires). Advantage would not step up to the plate and help out either. After having both Advantage and the trailer people look at the tires, they both said they were fine. Wrong! On the next trip home from Havasu (less than 1000 miles on the tires) blow out. Same tire in question. Still no help. Finally I went out and bought top of the radials and no problems with well over 5000 miles. It seems a little crazy that boat builders would even consider letting there trailer suppliers use these tires, and putting peoples lives on the line. burningm

I have carlisles also and you guys are stressing me out! I dont know to much about trailer tires. Do you think car radial tires would work better or do you have to have a special tire for trailers???

Don't use car tires!!!! If you want the best, I'd prolly go with Goodyear Marathons. However, like everything else some people don't care for 'em.
My Carlisles have done OK by me, but the heat in TX is "only" around 100 degrees, not as hot as Havasu.

Use only tires with ST on the tire. (Special Trailer, I believe) Also, from what I've read and researched the consensus seems to be the Goodyear Marathons are the way to go.
When I bought my boat, it had crappy looking car tires on them but I used them for a year and a half. It's only when I put BRAND NEW Carlisle tire on, that I had not 1 but 2 blowouts.

Thanks for the reply guys. I think I will stick with the carlisles and buy a few spares for when they blowout.
