The Scuba family will no longer tolerate lake lice b.s.
My nerves are really getting tested this year.
1. boat gets hit
2. Mrs Scuba gets hit at the sandbar
3. The lake lice incident
We are just kicking it in the middle of lake havasu on sunday, getting ready to switch off inner tube riders (the tow-a-bull) when this fricken dum ass of a jet ski rider comes speeding towards us, I am at the back of the boat watching the rider come closer & closer, I start to wave my hands around kind of to say, "look jack ass we are right here" (the flag was up as well) The rider does not change directions at all and passes us 6"-12" away. Wets everyone and everything aboard the boat.
My first instinct to get everyone aboard and kill the rider. But what example does that set for the kids with us.
We were all kind of shaken up for a minute, wondering what we should do. I am watching the ski like a hawk, and see that she (yes the rider was a girl) did the exact same thing to another passing jetski. WTF???
So the scuba family no longer likes pontoon boats, (execpt for the knuckle heads party barge) and now Jet skis (lake lice)

How about catching up with them from the back, accelerate up even, and Lasso them right off the PWC, haul/drag them in to the LE and place them under citizens arrest for assault, them same charge you would get for roosting them. OR lasso them as they buzz you, proof they were way to close to your boat or the rope would not have reached them. Does anyone follow these jerks to their camp and kick their ass?

You'll get charged with assault for roosting someone? What if you say "Oops sorry didn't see her back there when I hit the roost."

Long story short, during spring break a rookie pontoon driver, (rental) ran into me at copper canyon. Here is the og thread. why scuba hates pontoons (http://forums.***boat.net/cgi-bin/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic;f=15;t=002521)
So thats 3 strikes this year. And I have kept my cool on all 3 of them.
The next incident might have a different outcome.

Once again Steve you amaze me with your restraint and cool head. We need more boaters like you.
We have all had run-ins with uneducated PWC operators. If these people knew that what they were doing was wrong I bet 90% of them would not act that way. Education is the key to safer waterways for all of us. I am a big advocate for a mandatory boater education for both PWC’s and Boaters. We all need to know the rules!

There's got to be something that boaters can do about lake lice that are doing stupid/a-hole manuvers and endangering law abiding boaters.
I've been thinking about this and haven't yet come up with a suggestion other than something like this (not sure it has any value):
Maybe we should take down their CF or AZ numbers and general description. And then we post it on a thread here and talk to law enforcement? Maybe Boat Cop can help us with suggestions that won't put boaters in jeopardy (throwing oranges or slingshotting items at them sounds great but if you put an eye out or make them crash they can sue you - and they will - and make our lives worse).
There's got to be something we can do as a "group" to make this issue an even higher priortiy. And you would think (alright, I would) that we would matter to the local communities and to local lake/river law enforcement (maybe I'm dreaming but folks like us who bring real dollars to these lake/river areas have to matter).
Anyone have any suggestions or ideas other than chasing them down and beating them in front of families and friends (and risking getting beaten up by a group of PWC'ers in front of our families and friends)?

Miller, while I generally consider your words of wisdom to be amoung the most level-headed and reasonable on the boards this time I have to disagree. We DO NOT need restraint, tolerance, and education. We need to teach these self-centered irresponsible assholes some RESPECT! I for one have had it with this turn the other cheek BS because it DOES NOT accomplish anything. Growing up, my mom used to tell my brother and I, "little boy's that don't listen gotta feel", know what she meant? Yeah, well, it's time we hurt a few of them! I don't care if it's physical or in the wallet it's time they learned some respect!
I'm aware of the fact that I'm probably one of the more radical members of the boards but I just don't believe that I or anyone else has to put up with behavior on the water that endangers the lives and well-being of everyone else.
Some NON-LETHAL suggestions might be... string a rope across whatever cove or wherever you're parked with an anchor on each end. A paint-ball gun- mark the vessel for later ID. Looking down the barrel of a 12ga flare-gun takes the fight out of the biggest a-hole out there and if you really "feared for your life or that whomever was an 'imminent danger', go ahead and burn a hole in um. It's time we took back from those that have taken it from us!
Rio Lmao….Someone considers my blather “Words of wisdom” You just made my day.
I understand what you are saying and believe me I feel the same way. But if Steve were to go track down this idiot and open the can of whop ass (witch he is more than capable of) that would just land him in jail and have very little affect on the lake lice. Not to mention what it would do to his children having to see that all take place. I think the he made the right decision.
But you are absolutely correct we need to do something. I just don’t think that the vigilante approach is going to get us anywhere.
In my opinion the only real solution is Education and then enforcement. These jackasses should be ticketed when they are doing 360’s around the no wake zone buoys or bearing down on boats! I would never get away with that crap in a boat.

The registration numbers and a good description will give us all we need to cite or arrest the offender. As long as you are willing to come to court and testify to their actions.
We get reports of reckless PWCs almost every weekend. The problem is the description is usually a "white and blue jet-ski". No make, numbers, or any other info. At any given time there are probably 30-40 "white and blue jet-skis" on the river. Kinda hard for us to narrow it down.
Other times we get a good description, find the PWC, and the reporting person doesn't say who they are doesn't want to be bothered with testifying or doesn't want to "get them in trouble", just want us to "talk" to them.
The judges take the word of the ordinary citizen testifying to anothers recklessness even more than ours. The law based upon what a "reasonable person" believes is reckless. And by law, police are not "reasonable persons".
Please don't take matters into your own hands. Courts look down on vigilante justice, and I hate to have to arrest an "innocent" boater for felony assault because they spiked a PWCer with a full beer can, while only charging the PWC with a minor misdmeanor of Reckless Operation.
That being said, we can always hope Darwin's theory culls the herd. Case in point:
Last Sunday night about 9:00 PM a PWC leaves Sundance, northbound on the River toward Holiday Harbor. Full speed (according to witnesses) into the cliff at River Island State Park. Driver lived but won't walk for several months. I'm waiting on the blood test from the crime lab, but I'm sure it'll be at least 3 times the .08% limit.
Luckily he was alone and ran into a cliff, instead of another boat, and no one else got hurt.
I hate to see anyone injured (or worse) while boating. But some people deserve what they get.

Seriously, that sucks. I have often wondered how many people have kissed that rock at warp speed over the years...
That's one benefit to getting older, you get that stupid 20-cans-of-courage shit out of your system, and if you're lucky, you come out of it with just some scars and a couple of good stories.
