Can anybody please point me to a link for the Ski Race on the 10th of August? Something that will tell me what time it starts and where to park etc. I would appreciate it.

Sat Aug 10th at 8:00 AM if all goes well...Last year they had to delay the start of the race for a few hours because of fog.
We'll be there, anybody else???

The Flash D Crew will be there. Launching at 7 AM to watch the boats on the outside of the breakwater for the start. In my opinion its a better view than in the harbor- too congested. I don't know how this two wave start thing is going to go though.

Can't remember the last time they started on time. Seems like fog is always delaying the start eek!

Hey Instigator,
If you're going to watch from land, one thing they don't tell ya on the website is that parking's very limited right at the host hotel. Allow a little extra time because you might have to park at the Queen Mary and walk to the host hotel (which is about a 15 minute walk). You can also see the start and finish of the race pretty well from the Queen Mary itself which you might consider. Just a tip from a long time Catalina Racer.
Have fun,

Is it possible to watch from a boat? If so, where?
Also, do u think Cabrillo boat ramp will be fine place to launch, or maybe just take a cruise from Marina Del Ray? :)

Buddy with a 35ft Bayliner offered to take us out for drinks and bbq. Looking forward to a good time! I have never been to the race but cruising the harbor ain't to shabby.

Watching from a boat is probably the best if you have that option. On land you can only see the start (a little) and the finish (real good). Probably the best place to watch in a boat is outside the breakwater opening a ways, at least for the start. If you're outside a mile or so, the racers will have gone about 3 and will be getting spread out some so you can actually see whos who and so on. Just don't get anywhere near the center of that opening or you'll have about 120 boats right up your ass at start time. At 10-15 feet away at 60-70 mph all around you that could be a problem. Then after they go by you can cruise in and float around in the channel between the Queen Mary and the other hotel (where the finish is). In just under an hour the leaders come right up that channel to the finish line which is right before the bridge. Launching at Cabrillo is probably not a bad idea to avoid the race boat traffic at 2nd street or Huntington. I'll be watching from 190 feet in front of my skier in boat 26 (hopefully won't break like last year).
Have fun
Mike

Rexone-
What are the busiest ramps for the race. I am assuming in order from busiest to least busiest it is:
The ramp by the hotel
2nd St./ Alamitos Bay
Endinger/ Huntington
Is that correct, am I missing any?
I was planning to launch at Alamitos Bay at 7AM but I am starting to question that after your post. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

www.rexmar.com (http://www.rexmar.com)Thanks for the tip. I am going to try to get there early. I have a budy who works for Pual Pfaff who is going to put me up in the VIP area if I find it.

I'd agree that watching from a boat will give the best view of the race. Watching the start from outside the breakwater should be a good place to see the top guys going fast.
I'll be watching from about 190' in front of a skier in the novice class.. :D :D

Hey Flash,
I think your list of ramps is pretty accurate. Only one you left out is Cabrillo, which might be ok although it's sometimes crowded with fishermen. 2nd streets probably ok buy I wouldn't wait till 7. Race starts at 8 (barring fog) so if you get backed up you might miss it. I'd get down there by 6 - 6:30. Good luck,

Havasu Secret
It's always nice to see the Terrible Herbst team with all their RED Helicopters, multi million dollar yachts, big RED party barge boats with hot babes on them. Makes you wonder... how much money can one guy make selling gasoline!!!
