I am purchasing a car in the next week or so and wanted some feedback. I commute 75 miles one way so good gas mileage is a must, and I want something that will hold up fairly well in an accident and have that sporty look. My choices so far are a 2003 Honda Accord Sport, and I like the looks of the 2003 Monte Carlo SS. Any other suggestions.... eek!

That new MonteSS is a looker, I could see that...dont know about the fuel mileage thing. But if ya want to look like every one else doing the commute thing...then its the Honda> yuk
I here GM's comming out with a Chevel again, looks pretty neet.

Crew-cab turbo diesel. Good mileage and hold up well in crashes. Be the hammer, not the nail. :D

Have you seen the new GTO? saw a pic on tv, looks pretty sharp.

Camry is out, :( just sold my Celica and it had over 250K miles on it (hard miles too) and it held up great but I want something else...the new Chevelle is supposed to be awsome but havent seen it yet, or the GTO's..? The Turbo Diesel...uh, dont think so. I already have a hammer, its my Chevy Blazer. I cant seem to find anything regarding gas mileage on the Monte Carlo SS's tho? Whats up with that?

The 1999 and newer LS Sport with a DOHC 32 V from lincoln would be my choice. Lincolns always had strong bodies and this model offers a 0.81 lateral G as well. There's a V 6 version as well and fuel economy is around 26mpg on the highway. It's a rear wheel drive though .Unless you drive a lot in snowy conditions ,I don't see a need to pick a front wheel drive import .I liked the earlier mark Mark VIII LSC's as well. They were real performers with safety and comfort.

I considered a few of the above and ended up with the new baby Cadillac CTS. I think it will be in style many years from now where some of the above are a few years old. They are a lot less expensive than you would think...

Cadillac just sounds like a gas hog....and Im actually getting away from my original intent, to get something sporty but economical..I just love the look of these three cars tho..GTO, Honda Accord and the Monte Carlo SS. Damn, here I go again. I have a call in to the guy referenced above, so hopefully I can make a decision soon.

Stay away from the new Honda ,its known to have a braking problem. When you apply the brakes to hard the anti lock brakes have been know to lock one tire and put the car into a spin.

Her 454, Well its a sport sedan. I broke it in to and from Lake Mead from home and got in the high 24's burning regular at 75/80 (had to stay in slow lane at those speeds) I got the 5 speed automatic instead of the stick (first cad in 70 years to offer a stick). The only other extra I paid for was WHITE paint. I've had a dozen white cars and this was the first time I had to pay for white! Its still cheaper than some of your choices...

Or you could buy the ultimate kick ass grocery getter, the new dodge wagon with the hemi headed, supercharged motor, on 18 alloys that runs 14's right off the floor, screw that gm junk.

Her,
I just got a new Audi and got a real good deal on it.
http://www.audi-tts.co.uk/Red_TT_Coupe.gif
I looked up autobytel.com and punched in what car I wanted and then the information
went to a local dealer that participated with the autobytel network. They emailed me a
price back the next day and it was $ 5000. less than the other dealers wanted for the same
car. Evidently when they participate in the network they agree to sell at a fixed margin. It
was the easiest and best deal I ever made on a car. No dickering or salesman BS to have
to wade through.
The savings may be more on an import where dealers are used to selling at list price as
compared to American cars where some models have the price slashed to invoice price
already.
Good Luck
Mark

For one, dont buy new, and unless you are a performance freak, a 4 cylinder will do fine, I just downsized to a smaller car with a smaller engine and its just as fast. As far as cars go, you cant go wrong with a Honda or a Toyota, no Mitsubishi's and Nissan has the new Altima, which in 4 cylinder version is a great looking car, mid size and quick, that will be my next car, but I'll take mine with a stick and a V-6.

I know I am going to get shit for this but definitely check out the Jetta. I drive one as my commuter and it is a great car. Well built, handles great, and a pretty quick little sporty car. The one trip I have taken in it was to Vegas and I got 28 mpg at 90 to 95 mph. I regularly get anywhere between 24 and 27 mpg depending on traffic. As far as being safe, it was rated very good in the testing. It has 6 airbags standard. I have had mine for 2 1/2 years and have not had a single problem. And all in all it is a great car. If you are looking for something a little bigger, check out the Passat.
Go ahead guys, flame retardent is on.

Typical Woman. eek!
