What is the fastest you've ever seen a wakeboard boat run?
Last river trip I'd just idled out of the marina and some guys tried to race me. With my dead cold motor I declined by laughing uncontrollably.
Seeing as how these things go for $60-some thousand what kind of power do they have?

ive heard of some being able to get close to 50mph. but most are topped out at around 45. why the $50K ? not sure about that. then again all new boats are pretty pricey.

50 is probably about right, they do accelerate pretty quickly though. The tournament ski boats were pretty much limited by their bottom design as to top speed no matter how much HP you gave them. But the newer wakeboard boats are using more traditional vhulls so I assume that if you give them enough HP they could go faster. Here is one that is claiming 60mph: http://boats.iboats.com/malibu/ski_and_wakeboard_boats--1038/22414-ad.html Where do I get one of the "supernatural" engines...lol

Some of the pricey ones now use a drive that is more like a V drive than the conventional direct drives most of them have. It may make them a little faster? I remember an old tournament boat in the Hot Boat reader rides around 96-97 where a guy put a roots style blower on the small block. Don't remember the top end but it looked a lot better with the shiny stuff/lol.

45 - 50, with an occasional 60.
The reason is not lack of HP.
The reason is bottom design & drive line setup. They are designed to have a ton of transom lift and a ton of wet area to get the desired effects of the wake. So, the faster you try to go, the more the boat tries to plow the water.
But, they can be quicker than all get out (that is when they don't have an extra 2000 lbs of ballast and 10 people in them).

$50k would be low retail on a 2002 loaded Mastercraft, there are some brands going at $70k
for new with all the dodads, seems as dumb as the bassboat guys to me, a boat with one purpose only, but it would be boring if we all had the same tastes, or wallets, Manuel

I own a V-Drive for wakeboarding, and run a 320h 5.7 in it.
As far as prices go, you can easily get up into the neighborhood of 70-80k these days.
I run a four blade prop to help get out of the hole because I'm running 2000lbs of weight on a regular basis.
As far as purpose goes, the newer v-drives can do just about anything. You can ski behind them unweighted, wakeboard when weighted, and they can hold 8-10 people easily, so there awesome as party boats. When we're done wakeboarding, we usually chill with some brews, crank the tunes, and watch the crowds on the water. wink

Most of them have good power, they just are not set up for speed. But they can just about pull stumps out of the shore. The only one's I've seen break 60 were not wakeboard boats, but ski boats that were built to Barefoot with.

I had a '02 Malibu Wakesetter LSV 23' with 335 hp Monsoon. She ran about 45 mph at top end. Great boat with allot of room, but rode horrible in the chop. Sold it after my first trip to Havasu and bought the Schiada.

Wow, I didn't expect to see this much interest. I thought I posted this in the just jets section where there is some serious wake boat hatred. I was kinda trashed when I posted though. :( :p
70+ mph wakeboard boat! Damn I guess that means they can beat me then sink me with one good roller over the transom cry
