View Full Version : Ever get an idea and wonder if it's a good one?

It happens to me all the time. The one that's been rattling around in my head lately is that there is a void in the greeting card and gifts market ... for instance coffee mugs: got ones for fishermen, golfers, ball players, bowlers, etc. (handy lil thing that etc cuz I can't think of any other examples, lol!).
But seriously have any of you ever seen a mug for a boater? Or even more specialised a mug for jetboaters or for outboard boaters? What about greeting cards? Not just in stores either ... I can't find e-greetings or images on-line that say (just for a lame example) 'Happy Birthday To my Favorite boater'.
Anyway, I just wondered if this sort of idea thing happens to anyone else ever and what they do about it. Once I get stuck with an idea in my head, it relentlessly bugs me (to the point I even share the idea sometimes eek! ). Don't know what to do with it when this happens. The boating themed gifts and greeting cards thing is just one of many ideas that have crossed my mind. Boating is becoming more popular from what I read. I guess when there is a high enough demographic of boaters, then someone will start producing the mugs and cards?
I concede that it's entirely possible I'm deliriously overtired. smile_sp LOL! Oh well.
Hope everybody has a smooth Monday. :)

In 1988 I had a neat idea. I thought of a way to
protect the sides of my skiboat from the guide-
poles on the trailer. back then, when you bought
a tournament-type boat, the trailers had a short
peice of black-pvc pipe for protection from touching the sides of the boat with the pipe.
I bought some heavy cordura nylon fabric, and some
pipe insulation and had my sister sew-up a couple
of "tubes" from the fabric. then you unroll the
"tube" over the insulation onto the section of
pvc pipe. then the whole thing just slides over
the pipe on the trailer.
It served 2 purposes. the insulation made the
whole thing float (you'll never loose them) and
since they float, they sort of auto-expanded in
length for those steep boat ramps......
now, can anyone really remember these being around
prior to 1988-? I never ever saw a pair like mine. now, they're friggen on EVERY BOAT TRAILER.
--so, I guess I missed my 15 minutes of fame/big
bucks in the aftermarket guide-tube market.....

I get boating catalogs with stuff like that in it but it mostly is targeting the yachting/sailboating crowd, definitely not the hot boat crowd. I've also seen Christmas cards from one of the waterski catalogs that I get:
Ski Limited Christmas Cards (http://www.skilimited.com/xq/asp/clickpath.1011~/search_type.L0~1011/ShowImages.yes/sq.8/cont.1/header_title./dept_id.L0~1011/dept_id_list./min_price./max_price./brand_id./brand_name./qx/prod_list_display.htm)

--Sherpa :( That sucks. At least you know for your own self that it occurred to you first.

The Christmas stuff is closest I've ever seen to boater themed ... now if they would just expand that and not limit it to waterskiing and not limit it to Christmas they'd have the corner on that market! :) Thanks for that link ... saved! :D
