anyone else have a problem like this  Nope, state set up a do not call list, pretty much everyone in the state is on it, if they call you and you are on the list they get fined.

I believe by law they are not allowed to call after 9. I always ask if it is a sales call and tell them no thanks and hang up. Or if they ask for my wife I tell them to hold on and set the phone down.
Since my wife and I have different last names they ask if Mr. (her last name) Is there and I tell them that he passed away. :D

Get the companys name and the person your talking to. Ask to be removed from any and all lists that have your name on, write it down AND let them know that your writing it down. If you get called again from the same company/telemarketer after 30 days you have the right to file a small claims law suit (50$ fee). The average settlement is $1000 so most companys will remove you from their list. This tact even worked for me with Citi-bank who is one of the biggest telemarket whores in the nation. After doing this for approx. two months I'm lucky (unlucky) if I get 2-3 calls a month now. GOOD LUCK

This is going to sound lame but here goes. We have a telezapper (got it as a gift) and ever since it has been installed we have not had one telemarketer. You still get the calls but they are gone when you pick up the phone. After a while they start to slow down and then eventually stop as you get removed from their lists.

I tell them foackers that I'm very busy and ask for their home number and I'll call them back when I have time. They always say that they can't do that. Then I ask why do they think calling me me at home is any different. I hate it when I'm crawling around inside the boat that phone rings and it's them pricks. devil

RiverDave:
Miller, what the hell is a telezapper?
RD Do you live in a cave? For a while it was every other commercial on TV. I always wondered if they really worked. It installs on your phone line and answers the phone when the soliciters call, and since most are computer dialed, it somehow gets your number off the database.
I'm guessing the same people who make this dealio also make some of the software they sell to the marketing companies. Next they'll be coming out with new telemarketer technology immune to this stage of telezappers, then it's time for you to upgrade. Much like the radar detector and radar gun manufacturers... It's good to play both sides of the fence like that.

If it is a computer that is calling you it hangs up on you, and if it is a person they say “What the hell was that!” I hate the thing but it does work.

I just look at my caller ID. Out of Area seems to be a telemarketer most the time. If it is someone who wants to talk to me they'll leave a message or call my mobile. I usually get a couple a day though.

This is a true story that happened to me about four years ago. I was a little more polite to the callers back then. If it did not happen to me I wouldn’t have believed it.
The phone range and I answered it.
Me: Hello
Caller: This is Chantal from the united negro collage fund would you like to make a donation.
Me: No I am not interested
Caller: WHY NOT!
Me: Well I am sorry but I can’t afford it right now
Caller: BULL $HIT! You honkeys always have money. Now Give me some money.
Me: Excuse me?
Caller: You heard me white bread go get you credit card and give me some money.
Me: Click

True story, I have a special phone number that I give out whenever I fill something out or sign up for something. You know you're going to end up on a list so I never give out my home phone number. Anyways the number I give out rings twice on my phone so I know its a telemarketer. Just to f*ck with them I always have my 3 year old daughter answer the phone and talk with them. Its fricken funny. After about 5 or 10 minutes with her they always hang up. Plus it keeps her entertained.

I work shifts. Try getting woke up at 11:00 am after pulling a 12 hour shift the night before, all because some dick head wants me sign up for long distance or a credit card.
Finally had to get an unlisted and unpublished number. Costs a little, but the sweet sound of silence is worth every penny.
Vacuum salesmen (the door-to-door type) are even better, these guys won't take "piss off!!" for an awnser. I finally had to tell one that if he wanted to come inside, the make-my-day law would work better for my that way!!

Damn, you are right about those damn kirby vacuum guys. This last summer this asian chick comes to my door telling my wife they are cleaning carpets for free to test out a new product. She asks my wife if she wanted our carpets cleaned for free. She tells my wife that she just wants to demonstrate what a good job they do so we would use them in the future to clean our carpets. Well it turns out they are kirby people and this van pulls up and a guy gets out and begins to assemble a damn vacuum in my house(This is when I come in). I ask my wife what the hell is going on(My wife thought they were carpet cleaning people doing the first job for free). I tell the guy you are wasting your time I am never going to buy your vacuum. He says I know dont worry Im just going to clean your carpet. I again told him knock yourself out but you are getting no sale. So throughout the day he is in my house cleaning my carpets and every fricken 10 minutes he calls me in to show me every little detail of the damn Kirby 2000. I mean Im sitting there laughing telling him you are wasting your time. I must have told him 30 times that day. Finally after the carpets are done he says "hey I can sell you this vacuum for 1100 dollars if you act today." I about had a heartattack. I told him I would never pay that much for a freakin vacuum cleaner. Then he continued to go down in price untill he offered it to me for 400. Thats even more insulting knowing they were trying to rip me off with a 700 dollar markup. Finally he asked me "what would you be willing to pay." I told him let me see what I have in my pocket. I said here heres 20 bucks if you act right now I'll buy it from you. He got kinda pissed but I didnt give a f*ck. His buddies came and picked him up. I did end up giving him 10 bucks for cleaning my carpets though and to get him out of my damn house(Man Im a nice guy).
Afterwards I gave my wife the 3rd degree telling her about idiots like that and so forth(alot of them are X criminals that cant find other jobs). She now knows never to let anyone come into our home.

J/K, the best idea is to put a different number on any form you fill out, I use my work number. That way, your time at home is your time at home, and at work, you get to fork off a bit.
Here's a newsflash if you're not familiar with the direct marketing industry... Any data you fill out on any form (subscription, warranty, registration for a product, etc.) will get sold by a data collection company. It is possible, even easy, to order a list of left handed redheaded cheerleaders with green eyes if you want to. :D
A technique I employ to track who's selling my name is whenever I sign up for a magazine subscription or something similar, I "code my name".
For example, my AMA membership is under Stuama and my lastname. SO anytime I get a letter of junkmail to Stuama XXXXXX (not my real name :D ), I know those bastards at the American Motorcycle Association are selling my name!

I used to to get a ton of these calls especially my credit card companys trying to sale me inssurance that said they would pay my bills if I lost my job.I started telling them:
Really I just got fired today sign me up.That always stumped them.anyways when I moved I got all my numbers unlisted and get maybe 1 a week now.
