I think I found something that may work a little better in Parker then the HD..............
http://www.rawmotorsports.com/assets/images/autogen/a_pechansky_trucksmall.jpg
It may cost $115k more then the HD but I'll bet it will run!!!

Andy,
I think that's a little low.
A certain desert (among other circuits) racer I know sold his truck for 200 grand.
And that was only his pre-runner.

Isn't Funco still in business? They used to be big in the class 1/2/9/10 cars. I think my pop still has an old single seater out in the shop from the old shock building/racing days. Of course I'm dating myself here... There was also Raceco and Chenoweth as I recall. They still around?

Isn't Funco still in business? This is a Funco, or what's left of it. The owner was apparently pretty much of a jackass with more power and car than common sense and ran of the back of a dune. Amazingly enough, nobody was killed.

Uh... Oops!
As I recall their desert race chassis had a few more tubes in them! Thick wall chromoly as well!
Glad nobody was killed...
eek!

And that was only his pre-runner. I think you might be right! I looked at one this site and it said they started at 150K then I found another for 215K! Maybe just a little out of price range, say 149K -214K out of my range. :D
Im just kind of looking around, I was thinking about building a rail next year.

Oh, and while these cars in this thread may look nice, the lack of a "B" pillar between the front and rear seats on both sides for support of the roof tube doesn't do much for you in case of rollover. But they look good, and I guess that's all that really matters. :D

Andy The trophy truck that Robby Gordon takes out to Glamis books out at well over $750,000. Pretty bitchen' though.
As far as building one, wait until around summer time and watch the trader. You'll be money ahead picking up a complete car that someone is getting rid of rather that building one from scratch. For what I had into mine when I got tired of building it and dumped it for 35 cents on the dollar, I could have picked up a nice finished car. :D

I might be going skiing on Sunday. 8" of snow so far today at our local ski resort on the east side of the state.
Let me look around and I'll find some links for you. Those sand cars wouldn't hold up for an RD style trip to the Desert Bar.

To give you an idea of how long I've been out of the off road circles, here's a quick description of the last "state of the art" class 2 car I got to drive: "big" type IV motor (ha ha), hewland 5 spd, maybe 16" travel on a good day, Chenowth chassis, Curnutt shocks (of course!!!), probably 1986ish. Still amazed at the beating those cars will take and the speed they'll carry over incredibly nasty terrain. Someday maybe I'll get back into it but not until I quit spending so much money on these damn boats!

Come on find the web sites for those companies, then post the links! Foddrill Fabrication (http://www.foddrillfabrication.com/)
Contact us at:
4024 West Union Hills
Glendale, AZ 85308

Chenowth (http://www.chenowth.com/)
And I'm working on finding Spenser's site as Dan's cars are sweeeet. :D

The type IV motor is virtually nonexistent in off-road racing anymore. Scat V-4 motors (V-8 split in half) are popular, V-6's (honda, acura), 850HP V-8's in the unlimited "Trophy Truck" class, etc.
Funco maily makes sand rails nowadays. Chenowth is still in the class 1, 10, 12 market though.
The picture of the class 8 truck above (Pechansky Bros. Racing) is valued at about $150K. It is an older style of truck but is still very fast.
Robby Gordon has built numerous trucks in the past 15 years...He just sold his most recent one after using it in Glamis for New Years.
Here is a link to a site that has too many links to count.
Here is one of Robby's old trucks.

This pic and the one above it are at the double at Oldsmobile Hill at Glamis. It's a 4th gear or so pinned jump on a two wheeler... usually right around a 100' gap.
