I bought mine with a cd burner, windows xp, a bunch of ram, and it was only 1008.00 You must be getting the one that dims the lights when you turn it on.

Not crazy about Compaq's, The Dells I had in the past seem to be more reliable.

www.slickdeals.net (http://www.slickdeals.net)
They post specials from Dell monthly. Smokin' deals on this site.
I got my newest dell for under $500
You can also try the refrubed listings on the Dell site. They have some good deals on those with full warranty. Most I assume were DOA when first sent out then Dell changed the bad component in it, but cant sell it as new.

Those Alienware systems look pretty sick, specifically the Media Center Extreme system....and it is not a bulky box sitting out taking up dust.
