Hey Guys, has anyone purchased the extended warranty from mercury for 5 years? What would be a good price to pay? I've been told the prices vary dealer to dealer. Is the additional protection worth the price? I have a 496HO and have 2 months to decide if I wanna add this protection.

I think it's a smart move. How much are they asking? :D

HELL YEAH THE PRICE VARIES. I would shop and barter with different dealers, also check other boat builders. The price difference can range from 50 to 1000 dollars. Is it worth it, don't know I have one and in three years all I have done is tune ups and change the oil.....

If anyone knows where the best deal might be,let me know so I can save some phone calls. Is the warranty just extended or will a inspection be needed?

if you've already had the boat for ten months why not go straight to Merc?? $1200 direct from merc is what my saleman told me it would cost as long as i did it in the first year.I've also heard some good things about how they are with honoring the warrantee. Good at any merc dealer etc...

www.mercurymarine.com (http://www.mercurymarine.com) Is that per year times five years? or $1200 total for 5 years? Alco Marine had quoted us something like $5,500 for five year extended warranty.

most custom builders offer the extended warranty for about $1750+/- (one time)for a total of six years. 1 year that the motor comes with and five additional under the merc extended program. by not having it financed into the price of the boat you can go to merc. dirrect.(nice of my sales guy to let me in and that  ) that 5500 dollar warranty maybe is an alco marine thing and not a mercury thing(i hope, geez)

oh,one other thing that comes to mind is that the warranty price might very with the type / size of motor you get. the two prices i specified were quoted to me on the mx 6.2 mpi w/ bravo1.The drive is included in the warrenty.

This summer I had my power steering go out and Havasu Marine replaced the power steering pump and complete actuator under the factory warranty. It cost me 50 dollars.

Oh yes the parts alone were over 1600 dollars and the warranty covered it all. All I had to do is show my card to Havasu Marine and they took care of everything.

ALCO=
ANOTHER LOSER COUGHS OUT,
more than he should. What are they crazy. It is based on motor/drive size. No more than two grand for five years. Reality is 4 additional years.
