Hey I am looking at a new truck and I dont know what to get? I need something that will fit 4. Should I go Ford F-250 Crew cab? OR Chevy 2500HD? Will the Fprd V-8 tow my 21' Eliminator? 6.0 chevy? V-10 Ford? Thanks

im a hard core chevy man,but my girlfreind worked for ford so i bought the only ford that i would ever consider buying the f-250 supercab powerstroke diesel and i love the truck.my buddie has the same truck with the v-10 and it is a gas hog.i owned 3 or 4 chevys lowered, raised and never had a problem towing my 21ft ultra.a half ton truck is more then enough to tow what you got but you dont get the extra room for passengers unless you get the full four door f-150.

I dont think you can wrong with the chevy or the ford. Although I think the chevy all the way. Better looking inside and out. Looks more luxuries on the inside . I just bought the chevy HD2500 4x4 crew cab a couple of months ago and love it. You can also look at the Chevy HD1500. A guy at work just got one and seems to do the job pretty good. He tows a 30 ft donzi with it no problem.

That's my choice. I have the 2500HD, I don't think you need that for a 21 footer, look at the 1500HD.

Some will say Ford, Some will say Chevy or even Dodge. As long as it's a diesel you can't go wrong. :)

I agree with Rowe.No matter what anyone says, any of the new diesels(GM,Ford or Dodge)will smoke any gas engine available in torque and mileage.Plus you can't overheat the things if you try!

I've got the chev 2500HD 4x4 crew with the 8.1 and allison trans. It pulls my Hustler like a dream, if I put the Nordic behind it, it doesn't even know it's there! You could go with a lighter model to pull your 21, my wifes Suburban has the 6.0 and pulls our 25 awesome. If you stick with gas you don't have to scrud all the black diesel soot off your boat and out of your upholstery when you get to the lake and again when you get home! (just a thought)

If you want it for something else than go with any combo you like.
But for towing 3/4 or bigger Diesel all the way! wink

We have the 2500 HD with the 8.1/Allison.
Excellent power, good mpg with the 3.73 screws.
Avoid the Tundra for towing. Those rigs really struggle, nice trucks,, but towing on the highway they look stressed out.

I sold my quad cab cummings needed more room and went to a suburban and tow a 29' Warlock on a tri axle trailer the cummins pulled much better I thought than my parents powerstroke the suburban pulls just fine hav'nt pulled for distance yet its just a 1/2 ton 2 wheel drive. I must say a lot more comfortable than any thing else that I have owned. I did however put an air ride system in the rear to keep it level 2500 lb good year bags that fit in the rear springs no tail sag rides great.

Ford Power Stroke! The Crew cab has the most room of all the four door pickups. I do hear that the new Dura Max is sweet tho...

The new powerstroke diesel is about as good as it gets. For that small of a boat, a F250 crew or supercab would do just fine. If you are not going to be towing a lot, a Supercrew w/5.4 will do nicely. You may want to wait on to try the new 04 Supercrew.

Whatever you do DO NOT get anything Dodge with the 5.9 in it. I have a Durango and absolutely love my Durango to death. However, if at time of purchase I knew what I know now I would not have bought it. I get 8 MPG when towing my 19' Bayliner. Now that I am looking at something bigger I'll be replacing the tow rig along with the boat. I'll keep the Durango as my regular ride but most likely going to replace it with a Dodge Ram 3500 series w/ cummins diesel. Unless of course Ford gives me a better deal on an F-250. I get Fords at 5% below invoice through my employer so I may just have to get a Ford. The power stroke is a bad mo-fo.

Any newer 3/4 ton with a diesel.
1/2 ton trucks running gear is too light for serious towing. Brakes, axles, suspension, etc. is set up more like a car. I have owned a gas 1/2 ton and agas 3/4 ton and a diesel 3/4 ton, diesel is by far the better tool for the job.
I'm not going to get into the brand specifics, as I think that's more just personal preference than anything.

For pure towing power any Diesel is what ya' want.....BUT.....
For us older folks, (did I just say that), ride and comfort is just as important. Suburban 3/4 ton, 4 wheel drive, Autoride suspension, LT for all the bells and whistles, 8.1 for power, (occasional burp of the tires just to remind myself I'm old not dead). It will pull anything, (12,600# GVRW), rides like a Caddy, Stereo kick ass. The best of all as far as I'm concerned.

Can't stand the new "cat eye" headlamps on these and the GMC grill is much more attractive(to me)...sorry but the F series superduties just look better....performance is pretty much a match between all the trucks. I got the F350 crew 4x4 PSD...and love it.

I have a 2002 F-350 supercab dually with the powerstroke. Very roomy inside and more than enough power. I don't have my boat yet, but have towed my hotrod on a big tandem axle and the truck hardly notices the load. It pulled the Grapevine with 6500lbs at 65 in cruise control no problem. wink I love the truck.

My 2500 4x4 Avalanche has 4.11 gears, 8.1L (496 cubes), heavy duty tranny (not the Allison), luxury interior, rides like a Suburban and has plenty more power and torque than the V10 in the Fords. It's an awesome truck - check it out (once lifted - RCD 6" lift riding on 35" tires - you'll like the look) and zero percent financing makes it a sweet deal. Water on the ground is after it peed on a Ford :D

I currently have a '95 Chevy C1500 X-cab with a 7-inch lift and 33's but after driving many diesels in testing for Truckin' Magazine where I work my next truck will definitely be a diesel. All the way to parker in a 3500 Dodge diesel dually on a half a tank. Sign me up!!

Change the grill to the GMC grill and I might like it better, all the other stuff you've done is Sweet!
(just can't over the lights and grill on those)

Im going against the grain here but I love my Toyota Tundra acess cab. I had a dodge ram ext cab with the 318 (1998) and that truck sucked the gas so bad it was crazy and down shifted something terrible even out of O/D. The Tundra pulls like no tomorrow gets decent milage and is so quiet and rids so nice its hard to believe. I pull my 27ft camper with no problems at all doing 70 on highway but generally do 60 to 65 to take it easy. milage does from 14 pulling a big load to 20 cruising by itself on the highway. The only thing I would say is the cabin may be small for you but the new 4 door they have comming out is awesome. So far I am the most satisified with the tundra that I have been out of my last three trucks ( 98 dodge ram 4x4 and 96 Chev 1500 4x4) Its an awesome truck in my opnion.

I love big trucks but towing a 21ft boat? I tow a 3300lb boat plus trailer fully gased up the grapevine behind my Tacoma with a 6 cyl doing 50mph at about 3/4 throttle. It gets around 15 mpg towing. Again I don't want to be down on the big trucks because I love them too but I feel most guys oversize the tow vehicle.
If you want to know what the BEST tow vehicle is it would be the one that is driven by your chauffeur wink

How about who's doing the Most with the Least. I'm towing a 19' Jet boat (no trailer Brakes) With a '93 Pathfinder, a challenge at best, Can be fun pulling hills and then slowing it down on other side eek!

so far i havent seen anything from GM that compares, so its almost a givin.
