Well, now there's 3. This is actually a Dodge I had a couple of years ago. It's a 97 with a 6" and 35s with 4:56 gears. I never had any problems with it at all. It got me to the river and back for 4 years. I like the new Dodge trucks, sharp looking!

Question... If you were going to order a V8, would you go for the 5.9 or the 4.7? The 4.7 is supposed to be a better, smoother motor, but I do not know about the power or other specs. The 5.9 is the old push rod motor, I think I would like to go away from that if the 4.7 works well for others. Not towing over 4200 lbs, this will not be my main tow vehicle. Thanks.

I never had any problems with my 5.9, it was fine. However, if you are not towing, at least anything heavy, the 4.7 would be a better choice. It is smoother, better mileage, longevity, etc.

Here is my beast, 2000 Ram Cummins quadcab camper special. Pretty much stock (so Far) just upgraded stereo and bolt-on stuff. Oh, and stainless prop of course, seems to help with holeshots! http://free.***boat.net/ubb/Avatars/Forum_Graphic_Depot/truck31.JPG

Can you still get the V-10?

The V-10 is still an available option. Had it in my '96 1 ton dually 4x4. That thing would pull anything anywhere.

Yeah, the V10 is still available for somewhere around $700 over the 5.7 hemi. The hemi has more horsepower, but, the V10 has a lot more torque. Also have the regular cummins and the new HO cummins. The new diesels are really quiet! I'm shooting for a new 4-door with a V10 probably in 3 years!

Not a great pic, but here is my 2001 Durango R/T pulling my 21. 5.9, 3.92 gears, AWD, 4" drop in back, 2" in front, 20" Niche Throttle rims, bags in rear.
I am buying a new 2003 Dodge 2WD LWB 1 Ton non-dually for work. Dumping it 5"/2" and bagging it.

[QUOTE]Originally posted by Hermosa:
[QB] Question... If you were going to order a V8, would you go for the 5.9 or the 4.7? Hermosa, I don't have a dodge, but a Grand Cherokee.I picked the 5.2L pushrod over the 4.7 OHC for a reason. The OHV engine developes max torque at a much lower RPM than the 4.7 OHC.The 4.7 is smoother and slightly better on fuel.A friend of mine had both 5.2 and 5.9 L versions towing a 21 Mariah [quite heavy boat for its size]and he said the 5.9 sucked pulling the same boat on steep hills.I pull my 24.6 spectra [boat4400# dry trailer 1600#]with my 5.2 the same hills he did , no sweat at all.And the fuel economy is practically the same towing or not [average is always around 17.7 L/100KM]which I'm quite stoked about.Never had a vehicle that did this .I've always paid a huge penalty towing my boat with any of my previous vehicles GM,Ford or Chrysler= [1990 Cherokee LTD 4L].I've always had the proper tow packages ;)min 3.73 axel ratios.IMHO , the 4.7 would be your best bet, since you've mentioned it wouldn't be your main tow vehicle and your weight [4200#] is low. Also you live in flatland wink compare to B.C where I tow :p

Good info. I also have a 1998 Grand Cherokee with a 5.2. That truck pulls well after I added airbags to the rear coil springs. I'm happy with the motor. I was thinking about a truck, but the more I think about it, I might step up to the Ram instead of the Dakota... It takes me a while to make up my mind... Thanks for the info...

Hermosa, the brother of my friend who bought my 20 spectra [4200# with trailer] has a 1T ram truck [diesel though].Unless he looks in the rearview mirror ,he wouldn't know if there's a boat behind. He's got about 60K on it without any problems so far.

B-rad,
Nice looking ride, did your bumpers come stock painted? or did you have them done?

B-rad502
02-23-2003, 07:32 AM
I got hit in a minor accident so, the stock bumper was bent up. I got a hold of a used stock bumper from a "sport" model that was white and had it painted to match. That's when I did the after market mirrors too. :D

DODGEZILLA!!!!!!!!!
http://free.***boat.net/ubb/Avatars/Forum_Graphic_Depot/DODGEZILLA!.JPG That has to be the funniest shit I ever seen! Pretty good. A normal everyday Dodge truck with nothing more than an aftermarket grill, nerf bars, ventvisors, and a set of stick on hood scoops that have been installed backwards. Pretty intimidating IMO.

I will never own another after my last go around with Dodge. Mine puked a motor "lower end" at 38,000 and Dodge wouldnt cover the problem. Long story short No more Dodge stuff for me and my last 4 vehicles were Dodge/Chrysler products.
