When is someone going to introduce a 1/2 ton diesel truck? I think there is a good market for a truck that has a strong tow rating, still rides well for everyday driving, gets great gas mileage, and will go 500K miles without a hicup. Anyone hear of any plans by the Chevy, Ford, Dodge, or Toyota???

I work at a Ford dealership, and from what i have heard, it will be a few years B4 the f-150 gets a diesel. The new 6.0L diesel just came out, and is Kicking everyones Behind.
The plans (as far as i know) are to redesign the f-150 (similar to teh expedition IMHO) in 04 and then bring out a new diesel. (probably whack 2 cyl off of the 6.0)

Here's one of the old company truck. Wish I'd had more seat time in that one.

Rumor is the Jeep Liberty will get a 2.8l common rail injection MB diesel in 2004. That's the first small chassis vehicle to get one that I know of.

Anyone hear of any plans by the Chevy, Ford, Dodge, or Toyota??? The thing about 1/2 ton trucks that may delay or preclude them from getting a diesel is the light running gear. I had a 96 Ram 1500, and the damn brakes, axles, springs, and drivetrain were basically glorified car components. Too light for any serious towing or hauling IMHO.
My new rig is an 01 Ram 2500 Camper Special with a Cummins and the underside of that looks like a real truck. Heavy axles, suspension, and brakes built for towing / hauling whatever.

Hey brother! Why do you say don't forget the tranny upgrades? My Cummins Dodge has a Banks Stinger kit, and now my trans hunts around and revs between 1st and 2nd gears sometimes.
Did I poop in my own hair?
Thanks

CA Stu,
After you increase the horsepower in your diesel, with the low RPM's it will not be able to make us of the peak HP and Torque due to much slippage and trying to decide what gear to be in while towing. This will depend on the upgrades. You will definitely know if you need the tranny upgrade. Once you have the tranny upgrade you can increase the HP to around 350 to 400 HP with over 700lbs of torque with no problem.

Actually up to 500hp on diesel only is easily achieveable. Check out our website: Diesel Dynamics (http://www.dieseldynamics.com).
As far as the trans goes, the Banks kit should yield around 75hp over stock to the wheels. That's what we say is the limit for a stock auto trans.
Sounds like your 2nd gear band may be out of adjustment.

Sounds like your 2nd gear band may be out of adjustment. Ah ha! I figgered something was sideways!
So, next question: who in the 909 knows their Dodge trannys and will do a brother some justice for a reasonable price?
Thanks
