View Full Version : Can anyone i.d. my Block and heads? stock 454

just like that subject says, can you tell me a little about the block and heads i got on my boat? and what they could handle. i just got the boat less then a month ago with a stock 454, the only thing he's done to it is added a holley 750 dp
he says the engine had a rebuilt 2 season's ago, no paperwork so who know's
the compression was 125 all the way around, and it sounds good

block - 14015445
heads - 14092360

your engine is a 1978-1990 block it could a 2 or 4 bolt have to drop the pan to find out. your heads are 1986-1988 oval open chamber truck heads more than likely they are small oval peanut heads that are basicily no good for your set up.

Someone just told me you can tell if the motor is a four bolt by the size of the plug by the oil filter. Im not sure if this is true or not.

Original 4 bolt blocks(L88-LS7 etc.) came with an extra passage drilled and tapped for an oil cooler, all others have the pad there and can be drilled and tapped. The thing is that so many 2 bolts have been converted to 4 bolts that you would have to pull the pan to be sure, also a lot of 2 bolt blocks have been drilled and tapped for an oil cooler. The size holes for both would be the same size!..
