Intel CEO says California has lost its luster
Intel, the biggest success story to emerge out of California's Silicon Valley, has ruled out any plans to expand in its home state, its chief executive said Tuesday. Speaking before technology managers at the annual Gartner Symposium ITXpo conference here, Intel CEO Craig Barrett blamed what he called 20 years of political mismanagement of the California economy for driving Intel and other businesses out.

An all too commen story here. Our state gov sees successful businesses as nothing more than cash cows to be milked to death.

Sad but true state of affairs in California. I heard a radio interview with the Governor of Arizona a few months back. He was saying how much he LOVED Gray Davis. He went on to say that because of Gray Davis and his treatment of businesses in California, thousands of businesses move to his state every month. He said Davis is the single most significant factor for the huge increase in new businesses in Arizona! Pretty pathetic!

Dude that royally sucks! I live in an Intel town. If they were to pull the plug here, Real Estate values would crash!

During the energy crisis some of the big players in Silicon Valley got together and asked the state if they could build there "own" power generation facitility because they could no longer rely on the state.
It seems that rolling black outs are not good for high tech manufacturing. YOu can't just switch one of these plants back on line, it takes time, etc. (costs money, etc.)
The state of course, said no.
