I am having my seats re-upholstered. One shop said that I should go with a white because it is cooler to sit on in the summertime. Another shop told me to go with a light gray because it's easier to keep clean. The boat is white and blue. If you have white seats and are pleased with them, how do you keep your seats clean:confused:

You keep your dirty feet and/or greasy hands off of them and you clean them every trip as though you had given birth to them. Have you considered blue seats with a white stripe or some such thing rather than adding a third color, such as the gray?
A tip. Use the best materials you can afford. It never pays to skimp on the materials as they are exposed to the sun etc. and it is unavoidable. Granted, of course, that you actually intend to use this boat.:D

I've had white interiors twice, never again:yuk: Go with grey or blue and grey. What sucks with white is the stiching gets dirty and you have to scrub all the stiching with a toothbrush to get it clean.
A few peeps have went to cloth or tweed it looks pretty cool and sits cool too :D
Heres the best pic I could find of my grey and blue

Man, I can almost feel the sizzle from sitting down on those.
Just looks painful.http://scrr-sd.com/smile1/angryfire.gif
AZKC, those oxygenated cleaners work real good to get dirt out of the stitching, as long as you're just cleaning dirt and not grease.

Here's my buddy's white n blue boat. He's had this interior for three or four years and it still looks good. He really doesn't do any special for it. Just wipes it down once in a while. The seats are mostly white with a couple different shades of blue and hot pink piping.

I built my own seats (2 bucket and one bench seat) and I am bringing them to an upholstery shop to have the rest done.

I don't know if anyone is interested, but I have four fiberglass bucket seats with four white (purple piping) covers for sale. 200 for all. Cole_Keefer@cox.net

I had white seats in my last boat, didn't seem real bad to keep looking good. I found that Westley's bleech-white worked the best to keep the interior bright white, that stuff is available at most auto part stores (works great for raised white letter tires too). I say if whites you bag, go for it. Nothing looks new for ever anyways.

One of my favorite lakes is on a dirt road for about 9-10 miles one way. If I could learn not to go there, white would be cool  but the dust just trashes it. :(

I am planning on re-doing the interior of my boat this winter. I gather that most people here do their own carpentry and then have a shop put the foam and vinyl on. Do I have this right? If so, what do you build with? 3/4 marine ply? Lastly, do you just wing it or is there some good directions/plans out there for building?

Norcal, have any larger pictures? Also, do you remember the part no. from west marine? I quickly looked online and didn't see any seats that resembled yours. Thanks.

I had 4 of these in my old daycruiser, not a bad seat at all for an off the shelf deal, comfortable and seemed to hold up well.

How did you mount these seats? Did you manage to get storage under them?

i built a box treated it then covered it with marine carpet....the front of the box was open, i had enough room to fit a fire ext. and first aid kit etc.
the rear, i built a box and made the bottom of the seat removable for life vests and other things...

The ones I had were mounted on pedestals, which didn't work out too bad, the guy I bought the boat from had already installed them. I would think a carpeted box would be a better deal for lower profile boats.

You can step up and get the all black cloth like the Ultra in this months HB. The caption said is was cooler to the touch then the grey vinal that Ultra is using.

My boat is 21 years old with the original pearl white seats.
They are fairly easy to keep clean, just spray them down with Simple Green and a stiff scrubb brush once a year or so.
I built seats for my old boat out of 1/2 plywood. I knew the design I wanted and then I built the front buckets and adjusted here and there until I had what I wanted. The tough part was guessing at how much thicker the foam and vinyl would make the finished product. Once I had the shapes I wanted, I heavily coated the wood with resin and then had them covered by an uphulstery shop.
To mount the seats, I used some 2 inch L angle aluminum about 4 inches long and mounted them directly to the stringers. I then bolted the seat based to the angle brackets. It worked well, and was solid as hell.

I have white seats in my blue and white Eliminator Daytona. They need to be redone, and I will not be doing white again. It is not "if" they will get dirty and dingy, but "when." I have been very anal about keeping mine clean and after about 2 summers of use, you can't get all the dirt out of them. I have used every cleaner in the book. Industrial grade, off the shelf, you name it and I have tried it.
I am going to redo my seats in mutiple shades of blue and see what happens. I don't like the idea of adding gray to a boat that is blue and white. My $.02

thanks guys . the white can stay clean but it is a pain i have not used it too much since i got them done but i had though about the gray and iam very happy with the white for my choice.;)
one of the reasons i went with the chest in the rear seat is that it limits the movment of people through my boat( hints keep it cleaner) :p
oh well it will get dirty after time but i think it looks better on white boats . if the boats base was darker then the grey would look very good!

i think it also depends alot on how the boats gunna be used. is it a family boat?, is it your garaged hot rod ? and how meticulus are u? if your a guy that cleans his boat a week after he used it, go gray, if your the type of guy that pulls it in the garage and starts polishing the night you used it, go white!!!
