This is my friend's 1978 Cole TR-2. It has a 454 Chevy with a Berkely pump. Don't know all the specs but it is a nice boat. Has anyone ever heard of or seen this boat "Grumpy"?

Cool ride. Does it go fast enough to actually need the wing though? If so I have the utmost respect:cool:

Funny you say that, because I tease him about it all the time. I believe that it was put on after it was flipped on the water. So I believe that the wing helps it stay down on the water, but I could be wrong. I haven't been in it yet, but I believe it's pretty fast. He just got it not too long ago and is getting it tuned by Dave at DNE. His first order of business is to remove the two 8 gallon gas tanks and put some new custom imco tanks. I don't know, but if I owned it, I think I would lose the wings. He's gonna kick my ass after he sees this post :D .

Nice Boat! But, IMO, a wing on a Jet doesn't do much other than change the handling characteristics.

I think I saw this boat southbound on the 405 yesterday afternoon or the day before. Caught my eye when I saw the pump hanging off the back with the wing up top. Nice looking boat, but I think Im with everyone else on the wing.... Sell it to a V'drive guy. :D

Its a tr2 deck. Nice boat but it looks like a flat, and he will get a bunch of shit from the flattie guys with that boat. I would do as someone suggested and sell that wing to the v-drive guys. If he does want to off it, he should take it up to ming with a big sign that says for sale. I would bet one of the pro gas or alcohol guys pick it up

Come on Bense. The v-drive guys only need to see a pump to start dishing the shit.

I was trying to be PC with my first post, it really reminds me of a huge rice burner wing....

O.K. The Cole TR2 is a 2" Tunnel Runner Flat. What you have a Picture of is a StarFire Jet by Cole or maybe a Syndicate. Both COOL boats.

HAHAHAHA.....Welcome to the boards Frank. I like your name, it fits you well. For everyone here, Frank owns this boat...the one with the big wing on the back:D :D .

Yeah, it's a Cole. At least it was about 10 years ago (or more) when I last saw it.

Very observant...Frank was either on his way to or back from DNE in Costa Mesa when you saw him on Wednesday.

Ok monkey rage,
1) How fast is it?
2) How does the wing improve handling? As in, what handling problems did you have before the wing and how much better after the wing?
I'm curious.

Well, my Syndicate (which is nearly identical to this boat) came with a wing on it too. Although it may look cool, it definitely makes the boat more squirrly. Since the boat is nowhere near fast enough to be able to utilize a wing correctly, I took the wing off and run it without. Seems to handle MUCH better minus the wing. Just my .02

You know what? From what I can see that boat has not changed at all from when I saw it. Even that god forsaken wing was on there back then. Good to hear that Frank's taking it to DNE. Because back then it wasn't very fast. But it was turn key and a really cool boat. Looks like it still is.
I saw it at Buena Vista after some of Darrin Sananglo's (sp) buddies bought it from Gean Connely.

whats up lv jet boy i really haven't had any handling probs i think i'm trying to make exuses the boat runs 5200 rpm it's my first jet and i'm lovin it just need dave to tune her right. I'm going to add some extra space for fuel so i hope it doesn't hurt my speed but i sucks running out of gas

Hey Nova Guy, is your interior finished yet? If so how about posting some pics of the finished product. I really liked how it was being roughed in when you posted Day at the dyno shop. Something similar would look real good in my SleekCraft project.

Sleek,
Yes my interior is done, but it is currently at Froggy's pad having the wiring and stereo finished up. After that it's off to Lightning Headers. After that, it's back to Dave's for plumming. After that it's off to Elsinore for fine tuning. After that its off to Barney's for gel coat repair and new rub rail. After that........well, I think it will be spring or the beginning of summer and I will be at the river:D :D . I will post some pics of my interior/stereo install after Wes is done with it (hopefully soon, btw).

Monkey rage,
You're in good hands with Dave. You'll get clowned about the wing, but hey, if you like it who cares? My jet called gay because I have neon lights...but I like them so they stay.
Welcome to the boards!
:)
