I'll take a guess at around 4K.

I have a buddy that bought one a couple years ago. It had a strong, but basically stock 460 Ford and Berkeley pump with a diverter. It was in fair shape but needed (and still needs) gelcoat pretty badly, the interior wasn't the best, and the trailer is a piece of crap. He paid $5000 for it and I figured it should've been more like $4000.
He's not mechanical and asked me to go look at it for him. I didn't think he'd just hand the dude what he was asking for it without pulling me aside and asking an opinion first, but he did. It's been pretty much a problem free boat, but he doesn't use it like I use mine. He took it out lots the first year, quite a bit the second, and only a handful of times this year.
I believe I'd agree with Superdave and the $4000-$4500 figure, depending on condition of course.

Squirtcha, I'm thinking he wants to know what it cost back in 1970 when it was brand new. I'm sayin 4K back then. If it's clean then I bet you could sell it for more today.

Doooogh! Oh yeah, I see it now. Sorry, it's Monday. Mind if I ask, why would somebody want to know how much their boat would've cost 33 years ago?

I seem to remember seeing a 1978 price list (Southwinds I think) for similar boats which were around $7500. If you were to subract the typical 4% yearly inflation (that seems to effect everything but wages), your '70 model would have been around $5100.

I've got the bill of sale from the previous owner of my 1975 Tahiti Super Tiger and it went for $5750 including boat, motor(455olds) and trailer.

i just had no idea what boats cost back then. hell, the boat is older than i am.
fyi. i paid $1,700 for my boat complete. it ran with 30 minutes worth of work. overall condition is fair.with no rot. needs paint and some cracks fixed in the gell, new seats and carpet. the pump and motor are fresh within the last few years with low hours. i figured i couldn't go wrong with a running complete rogers for than price. just finished a carb rebuild and some fresh wire connections to the motor and it is just about ready to hit the water

IMOP You definitely didn't go wrong. A running boat for $1700 is a good deal. Drive it, enjoy it, and pick out the things that need attention the most, and do it a little at a time (or hell do the whole deal at once, if ya can afford it). Primarily I'd make sure the safety issues are addressed. Steering linkages, cables are all up to snuff and the loader's not gonna fall out etc. .
Nice job.
Oh yeah, get lots of pictures. Mine was a similar project (although I didn't get the deal you did) and I wish I had more pictures of what it used to look like before all the blood, sweat, tears, skinned knuckles, and MONEY that was put into her.

I've got original bill of sale from my 1971 Rogers Cyclone and it was 4,200 with a single axle trailer.
