My Dad gets a call the other day from a freind here in town and asks if he would help a lady out. She is a widow and has "two of those boats that the motors stick way up in the back. My Dad says "sure I'll get my boy and we'll go look at them". He calls me and we make an appt. the next day to go meet a guy at a shop. The ironic part is the building is less then 500 yards from my body shop. This guy says that he knew the dead guy and that the widow doesnt want the kids to have anything to do with these boats. The guy unlocks this door and it's so fricken dark I can't see. There are cobwebs all over and the place gave me the creeps. As the doors swung open and the light started to come in......Well I'll be damned, it's a Cole TR-2. It is so dirty you cant tell what color it is...Next stop another door. He swings this one open and here is a Glen L Thunderbolt with a big block. This thing is nice. Not perfect but lotsa of good equipment...Top loader Casale angle box. Real nice aluminum gas tanks that were fabricated...The trailer is a knockout. This is a perfect starter boat for my two boys. This would aloow me to get rid of a Master Craft. Anytime you can get rid of a turd tournament boat, it is a great day in my life. So long and short of it. Made offer on both. Offer accepted. Boats picked up today...Cole TR-2 for sale and Thunderbolt may have found a new home. Well lets see. Riviera, Wickens, Cole TR2, Master Craft, Glen L Thunderbolt..Wife loves me.

Way cool, you just never know what is out there.
A friend of a friend just passed away. He has a house in Parker, so they took a trip there, the guy had a few boats, but in his garage in Parker...21' Eliminator Daytona the boat is so clean, it only has 60 original hours on it. It has just been sitting with the cover on it.

Sounds like she just tolerated her husbands hobby.

And I hate you. :yuk:........... :D j/k
The only thing folks call me to ask about is if I'd be interested in some old 14' rotten fiberglass piece of crap with a ragged out corroded 35 horse Wizard or something that's been sitting outside under the pine trees for thirty years.
You lucky suckers........
In North Carolina, 'flatbottom' means 'jon boat'. 'Big engine sitting in the back' means jet boat. 'V-drive' is what's in a cabin cruiser. You get blank stares when you mention 'Cavitation plates'.

rattle can,
congrats.
I love it when I hear a story like this. And I realy love them when the pieces go to the right people, someone who knows what they are. We're all just the guardians of these things, boats, cars, bikes, whatever, until they're supposed to be passed on to the next guy anyway. Hopefully passing on a little knowledge too. :)
Very cool boats, congrats again,

I think it is a fantastic find and seems like it was suppose to come out this way. The guy has two nice boats and refuses to sell in sickness and in health. Then the boats end up in the right appreciative hands. He would want it that way. I just got the willys.

Flatbroke and Hackjob reprinted it a few years ago. I still have the original one I've had for 25+ years hanging in the garage, but I got new one from them too. It's really nice, they did a good job on it. Don't know if they have any more, shoot them a pm and see.

Do you know where that picture was taken and who is driving the boat ?
Parker strip, late 70's or early 80's (have to go look a the picture again and check the year of the tag by the CF #s). When this topic first popped up when the boys were going to repop the poster, someone knew who the driver and his girlfriend were. You might be able to do a search under 'ups and downs' and find out.
oh yeah, for those who've never seen the poster, it's a classic by the way, the name 'ups and downs' comes from the girls boobs. She's topless and one's up and, well you get the idea.

OK guys, I'm sorry that I havent got back to anybody. We got the Cole back to my shop and washed it. Not the kind that it really needs. I poured a bunch of siple green in the bottom and towed it around a little bit and them drained it. Needs more. We fired the motor last night to see whether or not it was any good. Ran great. Had 80 lbs of oil pressure. Heres what it needs. The trailer needs paint. Trailer needs tires. The hull colors need clear or repaint. Most of the anno needs to be redone. The seat upholstery needs to be done. The seat shells are fine. The floor is excellent. I mean nice. The headers are bassett and have mufflers, they have no provision for water. Pedals all work free. No stress cracks anywhere in the hull. It is a 1981 according to HID. No idea on gearing. Need to crawl underneath to find prop info. I have no idea on value. Here are some more pictures. I don't want to take detail inside pictures until it's cleaner.

The driver is one Mike Wicen and his girlfriend is some chick they picked up on the beach and then gave her a topless ride into nostalgic immortality....

I have no idea on value.
I sold my TR1 for 4500 no motor. I would say a great price for that boat running 6K. And I bet you only paid 500 bucks for it. You should let the kids have Hot Rod Cole, insted of the old mans boat (Thunderbolt).

Cole TR2, I promise I paid more than 500.00. Believe it or not, I do have a conceince.(sp) I put another carburetor on it last night and ran it for about an hour. Put new plugs in it also. Put trailer tires on it. Pulled a valve cover just to look at things and it has nice roller rockers on it. The heads did say Hi-Perf on the castings. I am in the process of cleaning the inside. I steamed cleaned it last night and it needs to be gone over by hand. I will post pictures of the install at about 4:00 pm MST. I would take 6,000.00 for the boat complete. You can call me at 208 375 6328 work or 208 863 2975 cell. Mike

I sold the boat for 6,000 to a guy I have known for years. I took it over to show another freind...(the guy I bought the Riviera from) and another freind pulled up. He bought it in about 15 minutes. I really appreciate the banter. It is really fun to talk to you guys in this fashion. Cole TR2, I appreciate the help on the price. I wanted to be fair with whoever bought it. I paid 4,000 for both boats. I didnt want to have you guys think I bought them for 500.00. I figured that if there was no way to tell if the motors were good then I was taking a gamble. Freezing the block is real common in this neck of the woods. She did not want to do anything to the boats, just sell them and get them out of the storage barns that day....Thanks again.

Rattle I was just joking on the 500 this story is to good to be true. I'm happy the boat found a good home. At 6k the new owner got a great deal! Sounds like it has a 454 LS7 in it. Looking closer at the picture, it is as clean as mine was inside, and I was happy to get mine for 7500 no motor.
spudsgarage congratulations on your new TR2. They are only original once so don't change it to much.

Some safety check details, minor fixes, touch-ups, seat covers and lots of polish! As soon as it is ready, RCL and I will be taking her out on Idaho water before she comes South in May when I bring my Sleek home from Havasu. Kinda like a Babe in each city! In fact I will be leaving for LHC in the AM to go play the last weekend of Spring Break. I am stoked!!!
