If you lived in SoCal back in the late 50's & 60's they used to have a mobile Donut delivery truck called Helm's Bakery.

my aunt recently confessed to my sister and i that after a couple of months of havin "higher than normal" bread and baked goods bills, she asked the helms man why? he told her that whenever we stopped him and he gave us our doughnuts, he added it to her bill!!! we thought he was just the nice doughnut man. i can remember that whistle coming from the next street over.:)

HDD, there is a truck identical to that right by my house and it belong to a place called Brew Bakers. They brew beer and bread. Very cool place. You can make you own brew in you own custom bottle there.

their choclate donuts were the best... nothing even comes close these days...i can still hear that "whistle" coming up the street....

I remember those guys, the truck they drove in my neighborhood was a chevy panel truck with doors on the sides that opened up to expose the sweet cargo. Nice piece of California Trivia...:D

And remember the "whistle" of the Helms' Man? I'll never forget that, or the fact that the donuts were in big long drawers! I got my Maple Bar fix from our helms bakery man! I'm off to KK's now, thanks for the calories HDD!

That is what I remember about them, I see one of those trucks I tell the kids the stories about the good old days.:D

If I remember correctly you would leave a helm's bakery sign in your front window and they would know to stop at your house. Ahhhh memories.

donuts, candy and even cigarettes ....i wonder if he had a stash of coldies..:D those cool drawers that seemed to pull out about 6 feet ah, childhood memories:D

we live a few blocks from the bakery. it is not there anymore but it is still called helms bakery. it has a bunch of little shops in it now. :D

We had helms when I was a kid. As I remember the sign was just a big H or something like that.

C-Mon Mandelon, I'm younger than you and I remember the Chevy panel wagons coming down the street. You got it NorCal those drawers pulled out foreever. Every once in a while I have seen old Helms trucks parked in the back of people's houses, would make a cool resto project since so many people remember them.

My dad drove a Helms truck. It was an old chevy pie wagon if I remember right.

They converted the old dist wharehouse in Culver City into a bunch of film and photg studios.

i live a few blocks away from this and they also have a bunch of furniture stores and art stores and stuff like that in it now. it is nice but it would be better if the bakery was still there. we could smell the bread and all that when they were baking. mmmm mmmm gooooood. :p :D
