How much is too much?
I've got .020 to .022 on 1-6...but 7-8 is at .041
A new crankshaft is really the only fix for this isn't it?

Just make sure you have good oil ring tension.
Will sling a lot of oil on the cyl walls. The oil rings need to have enough tension to scrape it all back off and not leave any to burn.

Don't get hasty here, have you checked the the width of those rods?, are they installed the right way?. I dought that the crank would be at fault, not saying that it's not possible though but I'd double check things out first before put out money for nothing!..My .02..

Just measured the rod ends (bottom middle area)...they are all within .003 of each other, so I think they are all okay. I question the crankshaft, because it's been reworked a couple of times. I'll probably change it our for sure next season..
Another question about timing chain slop...I can move it back and forth around 3/8"...Is that too much?

Should have none when you put it together.
Will have plenty after just a short while.
If the block has been line honed but a shorter chain to tighten it up.

I am guilty of that quite a lot.
I will pop in - read something (sometimes too fast) and fire off a reply.
Just remember that if I am off the wall every once and a while.

Anything that varied that far would certainly have me concerned also. I just wonder what they did to the crank and if I would want that piece slingin around my other high dollar parts inside my high dollar block!
Measure the rod widths to be sure. Have seen guys cut them down for the "Trick of the Week" read on Hot Rod magazine.
