What's (how do you tell) the differnce between 8MM and 1/2 blower pulleys.... I have a 38 on bottom and 35 on top, and the teeth are squaared instead of radiused......

sounds like 1/2 to me.
Measure center to center the belt or pulley teeth.

Smallest 8MM pulley I ever got my hands on was a 45. Sounds like 1/2" to me.

Is there any advantage to running the 8mm versus the 1/2 inch on a river boat?

You can run a kevlar belt. Much stronger than the 1/2 pitch rubber. Not sure if they make kevlar in 1/2 inch pitch.

8mm and 14mm drives are rounded tooth and the 1/2" is squared.
The advantages I was told from Littlefield when I bought my set up was that the rounded tooth (8 and 14mm) have less of a chance to chatter than the 1/2" Anything above about 7psi boost and they recomended 8mm up to about 20psi boost then they recomended the 14mm
Seems to be alot of 8mm stuff around in the performance market... I buy/sell my pulleys on ebay at a fair price and there always seams to be some pulleys for sale.....
kurtis, I ran a kevlar belt on my setup a couple years ago and sold the belt....It will eat up a set of pulleys in very short order....I only run Rubber belts from Gates now....No problems....
Never have run a 1/2" so I don't know. I always have run an 8mm.

I have run the 1/2 belts for years at 10-12 lbs. boost and have not had any problems. Also it seemed to be a problem getting the ratios I wanted with the 8mm with an intercooler. Any one else have problems with desired ratios?

Your 8mm belt and pulley will mesh better, less drag, lot stronger.Rubber belts make a mess, black shit every were.use a kevlar belt, way stronger, last way longer. far as eating up pulleys never had that prob, sounds like its too tight, same boat with same belt, same pulley's 14-71, 18lbs.3yrs just like the energizer bunney, still going an going.:D price differance $150+/- more depending were you shop.

NOPE. you can get any ratio, and get close to the boost you want you may have to play with your idler pully a bit to get some ratios to work.maybe push the belt in or pull it out, slot the idler bracket more,or make a new one real quick, not very hard.

I used to stip the 1/2" stuff when I was going after 20+ pounds.
The 8mm worked well over 30 pounds of boost for me.
Here is your basic 8mm pulley. Note the color of the pic. Taken a few weeks ago during the big fires.
