Nice boat! Saw you leaving Elsinore Sunday. My buddy Kevin and I were towing his 21 Eliminator Eagle while you were coming out. How did she run?

Hey,
thanks for the kind words fellas. It was the first trip out. I just sat her in the water on the trailer for a little while to make sure there were no leaks, get temps and fuel and oil psi's and that sort of stuff. I went to step on it a little bit, and as I would get on plane, it would drift to one side and as I would correct, it would over correct and send me the other direction.(was that a sentence?) I have about an eighth play in the steering that I didn't realize I had.(The steering is very very smooth. I'll have to correct that and take it out again so I can get on it a little. The engine sounded real strong, but like I said, it was only on for about a second before I had to let off due to the boat trying to get me wet. :eek!: I had a little bit of a tap on the passenger side valve cover, but it's only the stud girdle touching the cover a tiny bit. I'll have to shave it down or move it down. We'll see. I'll update when things go really smooth next time. (I hope) I'd post some more pics, but my computer is screwed up bad right now and running slower that Big Proppas new boat is going to.! :D
Bigamist, How's the boat, and what's up with Robert?

Hey Rob, Very nice boat, It's about time  I dont know if it's just me and I am sure no expert but from all the dragster's I've seen it looks like your motor could go forward quit a bit, I dont know if that has anything to do with the handling of it or not. just my .02 cents. Very nice boat Rob I'm sure it even cleaner than the pic's

Those dragsters are sure nice. Never have seen a light lay-up though. Anyone ever seen a lightweight SWTD? Wish I could find one of those. Anyone know where the original molds are? If I could get a light-weight dragster...man.

Southwind tunnells came with the motor really far back from the factory.Bp still runs his in the same position and hes definatly running well with that set up,we have discussed moving the motor forward with a few different people and we have heard its not necassary unless you have BIG horsepower.Anyways, heres 2 pics of my dads SW tunnel Dragster, his motor looks to be in the same place as pipescleaners.

What would you consider light for a dragster? Did they all come with parkay floors? That brown boat sure looks clean.

I have not personally seen a lightweight SW tunnell.. Lots of people say they have a light one, or they used to have a light weight, but im yet to see one that is layed up like a light weight performance hull or daytona. All of the Tunnell dragsters I have seen had the 600 + lb. lay-up, parquay flooring and the motor all the way back, set up as a lake hotrod.

The boat is still F***ed up,no-body will give me a ball-park price over the phone they want me to bring it to them, not drivin 2-4-6 hours to be told $2500.00 to fix,I'll light it on fire & call it a day if I have to spend that much money:wink:
Have not talked to Robert in a while, but I heard he was on one of the fires for three weeks straight bustin his balls wishin he had some ice cold water poured on him:D :D

I think pops is pretty light (the sides flex pretty good when you get in) and I think the deal with the motor being back in some of the TD's was all about having a back seat and being a ski boat. Pop's has a driveshaft from the motor to the pump. It seems to get up and scoot. When he gets his carbs straightened out, and heals his wing, we'll get some #'s up.

Funny you should say that, on the race boat (a Bahner Tunnel) He picked up serious #'s by moving the engine forward....If it packs enough air (and I believe a TD should) it's about finding the balance point...Otherwise running the trim up all the way would be perfect. Just a thought. I never owned me no fancy tunnel boat, just watched pops dick with his some.

396, I'll definetly be seeing you at Havasu this summer. You can ride wit me anytime bra. How's the hull coming along. You still got the same one right? Pics....Pics....Pics
Biggy, that's f'ed up your boat is still thrashed. If you don't get something done by early spring, bring it over and we'll see what we can do. Let me get this thing dialed in first though. I'm sure we can fix it. You'll probably learn some valuble info in the process. Chestah has my number as well as Robert. I'll be talkin to ya.
HotCrusader76, Thands man. It is about TIME I got back on the water. I sold that other boat to 396ways.
RD. Any room at the dock for me? I swear I won't run into anybody's boat :D
Hustler, The engine is just about on the transom. The electrical had to be moved from where I usually have it because it wouldn't fit. Kind of strange being that close. We'll see what it can do.
It originally was a pretty light layup. The bow will crackle if you put any weight on it at all. The entire floor area sides and transom area where all reinforced and parque was brand new in it when I got it. NO holes whatsover. The intake area and the cav plate holes all had to be redrilled. The stringers where also all new and completely devirginized. All new gauges and steering where put in as well as a custom diverter bracket and rail kit.(all kandy purple powdercoated) The engine is a 468 10.5:1 full roller on AV gas. Extensive head work along with enlarged valves and doubled springs. The pump is stock and will be next on the TODO list. Along with a fiberglass stretched back seat.
Been a long hard road. Thanks for the words of encouragement. That's what it's all about for me.
I'm going out to the garage to take care of a few issues I had on the initial outing. I will then be testing at Elsinore tomorrow with Mouzer and his Tunnel. If anybody's out there tomorrow, swing by and say "hey, aren't you one of those ***boat computer nerds?"
Here are few pics for you guys and (hopefully) gals.

beautiful sw. are ya gonna bring it to ming?
i wouldn't move the engine forward at all. it'll make a pig out of it. i've run mine 107-108, and it's just fine, and very well balanced. there was plenty of room to install a jetaway, and cut the driveshaft down. mine is not lightweight either, well in excess of 600 bare, but the deck is fairly thin and does flex some.
