I've had quite a few people come buy the shop and tell me that the boards aren't what they used to be. They are really funny but not as imformative as they used to be. They feel if they come on with a question that to them would be a serious one that they will be made fun of for being STUPID (Jim Anderson). Though I think there is a time and place for a good laugh (BBSP) these guys really could use a little professional help at times, so give them a chance before they give up. Just my .02 :cool:

I also feel that when Hot Boat started deleting somesone's posts (with out me knowing) who felt he was getting screwed just ruined all the creditability of this place. Hey, if someone gets screwed I think he should be abole to tell others so it won't happen to them next.
You know, it's not only this forum, the entier site has taken the turn for the worse if you ask me.
Now I'm the first one to say if ya don't like it start your own site. Well that's just what we are doing. It's almost done.
But if someone want's to go to a GREAT v drive site they should check out AZ Don & N!ck's site. They built the BEST v drive site on the web so everyone should check it out and use it.

I'm gonna prep and paint my 21 this winter and needs LOTS of advice. I figure you're the man to go to. Also do you have any extra supplies taking up floor space in the shop you want get rid of? Like maybe a bunch of sandpaper, tape, masking paper and some leftover pearl and some white Imron or = and maybe a quart of clear. Oh yeah, if I bring it by the shop will you help grind all the chitty spots out of the glass so I get it right the first time?

Point very well taken.
And yes, small things can get blown way out of proportion. The lynch mob mentality can take over real quick.
But not every case is like that and people should be able to speak their mind.
Also people should be able to respond to it.

The main point of my post was to give out a site for V Drives that does not have all the fakes and all the gibberish (yet) where a person would feel comfortable to ask for help or advice.

If you guys want all the bs not in vdrives I can easily make that happen. We have a bs forum called bench racers already designed just for this. What I've been trying to avoid is the feeling of a gestapo atmosphere in vdrives that becomes "not fun". We can tighten it up to strictly tech only if that's what you guys feel is best. I have no problem managing it at that level. You can PM me with comments if you like or post them either way. I'll review this thread tonight again.

Here's my take. I think anyone who has ever asked for information or help with his boat on this forum has gotten it. No matter how slow your boat is. A few jumped in on "The Anderson" threads and maybe got a little carried away. And maybe they didn't. But many tried to help and give the guy the benefit of the doubt.

I look at the forums as an info source and a way to meet people. I think the BS will pass eventually. Those of us that have a real winter, boat very differently. We also do not have any local suppliers or mentors. We don't have time to mess around. We ask questions in the winter and test like MOFO's in the summer. I don't care if the racer's BS, I just want the totally NUTTS s*** to not get in the way of a good resource. Not everyone lives in California or Arizona; I just want to be able to talk to them seriously, once in awhile. The rest of the time joke away.

Ok here's my decision based on reading and digesting all the serious posts and messages only. For the most part (there are exceptions to everything), you guys seem to be happy with the bs level that exists. Some complain a bit and then as soon as I threaten to tighten up, they backpeddle a bit, probably afraid that laughing will become a crime in the vdrive forum. That in itself tells me we're not too far off target where we're at currently. My opinion is that if no ones laughing, no one will be here anyway to read the stuff the two guys that are left here post. That's just marketing 101, no big revalation there.
Some don't like the aliases, some do. A couple would like to see a strict environment where anyone that cracked a smile was banned for life and would lose their citizenship and boat ownership rights as well. A couple would like a total Knutt farm. That's life and neither is going to happen. So I'll probably make some "minor" adjustments as we move forward. The obvious alias based or hijacked threads will likey find there way over to bench racers even if they started out as legit threads and were turned bad. If that becomes a major problem occurring with regularity then I'll remove the offending aliases from the forum. For the most part if the Knutts don't screw with the guys that want legit info and don't try to dominate forum content I will be reasonable in return. If they don't show restraint they will become peaknuttbutter.
btw I have a "pretty good idea" of who everyone is here contrary to what they may think. One Knutt down could be like a dominoe effect traveling way beyond the knutt cousins if you catch my drift. Also, if I didn't have a pretty good idea that those being screwed with deserved it I would likely not allow it to continue. If you can kick, be also prepared to receive. Enough said on that.

And yes my website addresses have been in my signature since the beginning of time. I recently added some new product links there. Those who aren't interested aren't forced to click just like no one is forced to read threads they don't like. And btw I do pay for the banners I run on the ***boat site and none of the moderators are paid a cent. Just answering that obvious follow up before the question is asked.

The v-drive forum does have a different flavor than jets. I learned that long ago. But I wouldn't say getting worse end-of-the-world cats and dogs sleeping together type of thing. Or better. Just more of the same. Stay with me here...
I think each forum takes a mindset based on size and the stronger personalities posting. In the v-drive forum there's those who post tech and those who mostly joke. Some do both. But the overall mindset of the informal leaders is be cool no matter. Don't talk the talk just walk the walk...etc. That mindset doesn't encourage tech question and answer. The group being small makes for stronger social ties, people watching each others backs, etc and more of a social flavor. No big deal.
In the jet forum some tech some joke but mostly a larger group of guys with less social ties. Many new to the hobby asking questions and others trying to answer them. A bigger group and not as much try to be cool mentality. Although like every forum there's elements of each and changes in ebb and flow depending on who's posting. Again no big deal.
In the end I think the less "moderating" the better. Boards change with the flow. If people want more tech or more social, well, it's up to those who post to lead that way.
Most know what I think about fake id posters, that doesn't mean I want them moderated or censored. I say what I think and they can do what they want. In the end, threads people are interested in take off and those not die.

You should do well with this I think h29. Sounds like a stout piece. I think billy can handle all the conversion items you mentioned. he seems able to convert himself to wear just about any hat necessary lately. ;) good luck with your project, see ya in the winners circle.
ps if you're gonna run just the 409 I'd run an extra large blower to compensate for the lack of ci. just a tip.
