November 2003
Hello everyone
http://img.villagephotos.com/p/2002-10/61269/Chowchilla2003149.jpg
Speaking about safety equipment, I thought my pneumatic pop off valve was too expensive for what it does until I needed it to function during my engine failure at top speed in the 8.50 – 8.99 bracket run
What happen was my lower blower pulley had a ding on some teeth and the belt let go took out the fuel lines and the boat started to take its own direction to travel.
Hit the bottom to activate the pop off and the boat settled back went straight and “NO WORRIES”
Take it from a user, spend the money and be happy!!!
Placed Runner up in Blown Gas Jet and Runner up in 8.50 brackets.
I also want to say thanks to Tom Papp from Tom Papp Racing for making the finals possible. Tom repaired the pop off at the track, for boat #149 Tsunami, a 19' Tom Papp Racing Stealth.
I also want to thank my crew, Robert and Robby Johns and Crew Chief, Jim Brock, Cyclone Speed and Marine.
Will step on it next season to run the low "8"
See Ya out there.
Be Safe

Willis, I saw that. Looked pretty scary from the beach. It looked as if it was just about ready to spin then you poped the valve and saved it.
You got your moneys worth out of that valve for sure Sunday.

Willis Glad to hear the pop off valve worked. Looking forward to racing with you again next year. We are setting up The Blue Thunder boat with a blown gas jet motor. We might see you at the NJBA banquet.

Blue Thunder,
My current boat I believe was a blown fuel jet named Blue Thunder. Could this boat been yours in the past, did you ever own a Mach 1?

Willis,
Do you also have a Jet Away on your boat?

At the time the boat was being built, the pop off was the choice.
by the way, my boat is a 2003 Tom Papp Racing stealth 19'
and, Frank, I'll be looking foward to the year:rolleyes:
We are beginning to step on this engine and its working as expected.

Willis,
I have a ratchet on mine currently, was wondering if I should run the pop off valve as well.

alky 557 No it was not a Mach 1. Originally Blue Thunder belonged to Steve Siedal and it was a 18 CP. That was 1985-86.
We bought it in 1995, used it until 1998 then in 1998 we bought a Tom Papp Stealth . Then in 2002 we crashed Blue Thunder and in 2003 we built a new Tom Papp Blue Thunder. We raced both boats in BFJ and BGJ in NJBA 1996- now.

We ran the pop off and the jet a way on all 3 boats.

Does anyone know who ran a Mach 1 blown fuel jet in the 80's named Blue Thunder?

Bluethunder, I noticed the edge was up for sale. Do you still plan on running a capsule for your next boat, and what are your thoughts on running with a capsule?
Congratulations on getting back on the water, glad to see you back out there.

Mine was made that dude who make the best blower manifold.
His name is Roy:rolleyes:
Any Marine/Racing outfit should be able to order and install it for you.
Just make sure the intake is machine at the right angles or the piston in the popoff will rub the wall.:eek!:

Thanks for the welcome back. We are selling the new boat because it is too heavy for what we are trying to do. We plan to build a new boat that is lighter. I will stay in a capsule because it is safer and we have already gone faster in a capsule boat than an open boat. I am too old to be in an open boat and risk crashing again.

I have that on the video they sent me from redding video.Looked like it started to turn good.109 mph you should be in the 9.50-9.99 next year. The announcer was like oh no:D
I will be moving to a faster class we went 9.32@115 last race and there is more left in the motor and set up so the competition will be lighter :D

77charger I heard you won your bracket?:) .On that run it died at the start too.The run after that one it died at half track and it really turned hard.My boat and motor has more left in it.But i will be happy in that bracket.Good luck on moving up a bracket

willis, you're gettin' into that area where you should be running both. frank runs both, don harris runs both, jerry runs both... and others running that fast run both. if there's a safety device available, you should have it on there, 'cause it just might make the difference next time.
you also oughtta be wearin' a fire retardant driving suit.

OkieDave on these boards blew his bowl off 3 0r 4 years back. Was on the spray long enough to get ahead. Opponent was catching up so he hit the button again. Had lots of extra RPM for some reason.
The bowl blew off - drug the place diverter control out of the floor and to the transom - when it hit the transom, everything connected to the cable outside the boat flew foreward and hit the side of the boat right next to him.
Very lucky man.

Hey Frank glad to see you are on the boards now. Also glad to see you are going to still be racing, I saw your boat was for sale. I've witnessed many of your passes and looks like many more. Good luck.;)

Frank, let me say welcome back and hope all is well. I am interested in the boat. Can you tell me a little more about it and where I might find the ad or some pictures. Oh by the way welcome to the hot boat forums.

Thanks, it is really good to be back. The ad for the boat is on Dragboat.com. I am selling only the bare hull with intake. We would like to build a lighter boat. This boat would be great for an open boat but with the capsule and all the gear it is just a little heavy.
