Just as a guide given to me by my machine shop, he recommended afr's for outta the box performance per dollar since they are already cnc ported and he's had good luck with them making decent hp. He told me if I wanted to put the money in them, then brodix/victor etc heads were a good choice as I could have all the porting/valve/flowing work done to get a top notch power builder. You'll sink more money into them just to get them up to the afr standards, but if you're looking for all out preformance then you should take the bare casting of another brand like brodix or victors and have them professionally worked by a head shop to be money ahead.
Specific applications could dictate a little also, ie blown, n2o, etc. as afr has different exhaust porting options for certain applications.
I haven't personnally used victor jr's heads though.
