I love to look at old drag boat pictures, especially blown fuel jets, and I would love to see some posted here in the just jets forum if anyone has some they would like to share.
Below is a picture that a buddy of mine who lives in Alb, Nm took when he saw this boat setting outside of someones shop without a motor in it. The name on the side of the boat is "Your Place Or Mine" but he has no other info on it. Does anyone recognize it?

BlownAlky, nice boat. The deck looks just like a Kachina I was considering when I bought my PC. I liked the way yours flairs up in the back. I'm running a 540 n/a with mild compression est. hp (at Lake Mead) 650.
http://users.lvcm.com/lvjetboy/HowFast.gif
Although 100 by v-drive standard's the norm :D for a non-blown mufflered lake jet burning 89 octane not bad. There's a few more mph's with setup tweeks but I doubt more than about 103.

That is a bad ass boat Blownalky!! Who made the Mach 1s? I once saw an ad for a mach 1 / Placecraft but I just figured somebody didn't know what they were talking about. The deck on that Mach 1 is awesome looking.

Just wondering if anyone has information or pics. of an old blown alcohol flat v-drive called "more wheaties". Drivers name was Dave Robanski. He recently passed away and was an acquaintance of mine up here in the NW. I thought I remember him saying he had the record at 140ish mph at the time. I'm guessing in the 80's? Sad circumstances of his passing. He went hunting and slipped and fell in a ravine. Made it to his truck, drove home and went to bed. Next morning still hurting so he went to the hospital. He had internal injuries and didn't make it.

Tolly,
Mach 1 is a Splash of a Southwind Tunnel.
HP350SC,
You should post this Question on the V-Drive Board and Ask for The V-Drive Video Guy he has Lots of Old Boat Racing Pictures.

Thanks for the info 1bahnerjet. The Southwind Tunnel dragster is my all time fav., but I think I like the deck on the Mach 1 even better. Do you know who built the Mach 1s or where and when they were built??

bill rathke found that hull wasting away in a field, and bought it for 300. two years later, it was "almost" like you see it here.
if you notice, there is a section painted blue on the gunnel right next to the driver's seat. when the thing tossed him out 3 years ago, his ribs cracked the hull right there, so he got even more creative with the fix, and the blue was painted on.
a friend of bill's bought the hull earlier this year, and i believe they're planning on bringing it out again next year with a different engine combo. it's a real work of art.

Das Boot looks to be a Southwind Tunnel Dragster with the pod shortened. All the other Mach 1's that I have seen look like mine, but I am sure there are many variations out there.

I used to drive Rated X for Bill Henderson for about two years until I broke a underwater part at Long Beach Marine Stadium--landed in the hospital for about a week----also drove the Harman Marine circle boat and the Blown Fuel Hydro Californian for Tom Archibald---If you need pictures of Rated X Crashing at Long Beach, just e-mail your internet address and I'll send them to you

I will load a complete series of the same crash at Long Beach. That boat was always dangerous to drive. When you went thru the finish lights, you had to first push a button on the steering wheel that put gas into the blower so it wouldnt lean out and pop the blower. If the engine back fires thru the blower---you get wet---and Bill Henderson cries because he has to replace the blower

I used to drive for Bill Henderson when he had a Wright Hull----the boat turned a 9.00 second run, but we had to idle to the lights in those days--it ran a constant 140 +---very scary to drive----if you had a blower pop, you were wet---We had another name for Bill Henderson and it was Sweet William------It was "cheap Bill". When we were on the road with the boat, he bought breakfast and said--What do you want---Bacon or Eggs-----We used to run against Dennis The Mennis, Royal Flush, and other blown fuel boats---The boat finially got me at Long Beach Marine Stadium in the lights and spent about two weeks in the Long Beach Hospital.

How fast did Rated-X run ET/MPH?

Lou "The Torch" Wallman
09-01-2010, 11:34 AM
we had to approach the lights at almost an idle and after going thru the finish lights, you had to hit a switch on the steering wheel to put gas in the blower to eliminate a blower explosion and if you survived that, it would turn in the low 8 second with a 145 mph run--

I 'll have to check--I still have a teaching credential in Calif---

great picture! man that must have hurt! what happen why did you come out?

Lou "The Torch" Wallman

I got thru the first finish light and the engine leaned out with a blower explosion, the boat dropped, and the boat front forefoot dug into the water thru me up against the right side of the hull, cut the right side of my above the hip area wide open. Never knew it happened. Woke up in the emergency room when they were cutting the chute jacket off along with my clothes. I thought I broke my hip, but only had internal injurys. This was my third and final boat crash. Crashed the circle boat, crashed a blown gas hydro, then Rated X--all mechanical problems--but life goes on. Now I run a top alcohol funny car--much safer--haha
