I understand. I asked the employees what they wanted to do and they answered it for me :) I have no problem letting them make decisions as a group. We recently decided to let them vote in secret for employee of the month. Tomorrow I announce the results. Each employee has a vote. I believe in empowering the employees to make certain decisions like the parties, etc. Makes them feel good that they decide. Ask them what they want to do.

Last year my company christmas Party had a vegas theme with gaming tables, black jack, craps and roulette for raffle tickets and gave out some pretty good stuff. A few years ago with another company we had it on one of those Harbor Cruise boats out of newport, that was a good time too.

I only have about 8 employees, I take them out to a late lunch at a nice restaurant and give them bonus checks, usually on the Friday before Christmas.
I usually give out gift certificates to Vons for $25 or $30.00 for Thanksgiving, but with the strike.....who knows.

Absolutely nothing. A multi billion dollar company who doesn't even throw a company party, and if they did, contractors like me are not invited. I would just embarass them anyway.....

I am on my way to VONS right now. I normally give 20 to 22 lb Turkeys. The strike has things a little upside down this year so, this year it will be paper turkeys of $20.00
For Christmas we have a pot luck lunch and all of our people bring a dish of their favorite meal. Works out real well as we get to sample foods from all different areas of the western world. For the companies part we hold a raffle and everybody wins a gift. We normally have a bunch certificates to area resturants between 20 and 50 bucks. Our bonuses are handed out two weeks before christmas.

The architect I used to work for in SD would take us all to DAve & Busters for our Christmas party. It would be open bar, all the food you wanted and game cards with $50. Then we would get a bonus check right before Christmas!
This year though, my boss sucks and rumor has it we will be lucky to get a box of Sees candy.

I take my employees and their spouses to the Cheescake Factory, give them an open bar and we have a good time and eat some good food. No bonus though. I have never worked for a company that payed a bonus for the holiday, and I have survived.

My company gave everyone a 15% pay cut and removed all bonuses. Merry Christmas!!
Thank god for my plan B. I told my boss I was having a problem with my eyes. I just could not see myself working for him past the end of the month. He was not too happy, as they are being bought out and want to keep the defections to a minimum until they get the deal done. If the deal does not go through, very good chance of the company going under....they have a minor problem...a negative cash flow of about $2million/month! Dote! Well, since other people's livelihoods are at stake - I agreed to stay on until the end of January help secure the deal. Then I will take as many with me into my plan B!! Actually, already took a few;)

How big of bonuses (or is it boni?) do you guys get?
I usually give out $250, $350 and $500 depending on seniority and performance. No body ever complains, but we are a small business.
We usually have a christmas party at my house too, for everyone and their families.

Come on now....you know the rules...make it funny!
Oh, and if you are serious - you better call the Better Business Bereau, the PUC (Public Utility Commission), the FCC, the 3 former State Attorney Generals running ACN's legal division, and the 45 million people in my industry and let them know that you found something out that no one else knew. While you are at it, you better call Fortune magazine and tell them to recall all the Sept issues and don't forget to call.Inc. Magazine's Inc. 500 list (ACN is #22), Success Magazine, and the LA Times to name a few. Oh, you better call all of ACN's customers, and tell them that we need to ask for all the money back they have been saving on our utility and telecom services. I am sure they will listen to you.;) Perhaps you should call all the franchise companies like McDonalds, Subway, and Quiznos - they take people for $250,000 to $1,000,000 dollars at a whack! then they have the gall to demand 11% of sales!
See, if you make it funny, people don't think you are uneducated. I am sorry some one stole your dreams, I hope you get them back someday.

One of the principals of my wifes company has had the office Christmas party confused with a "roast" for years. He would call each employee to get their bonus check and then tell something rude or embarrasing about them to the assembled group..... This year, a majority of the employees claimed to have other plans, regardless of when and where the event is planned, and it was transformed into a luncheon on company time! No word yet if another partner will be handing out the checks!

My new employer has a Christmas Party/End of the Year Party (for those who don't believe), to Arizona, free flight and a free Hotel room. Previous jobs: one gave us a free trip to vegas, $100 per couple for reimbursement flight tickets/gas, and a free room for 1-2 nights. Other job gave me a $2000.00 check at the end of the year, took home $1100. Nice Christmas bonus, although I got it after Christmas, I paid off my credit card bills.

This year we are chartering a yacht in Newport Harbor for dinner, dancing, drinks and receipt of a year end bonus. We are also providing a room at a local hotel which will include a shuttle for everyone to and from the yacht in a limo. The bonus usually equates to 2 months salary depending on the level of the employee. :D

Mandelon
11-26-2003, 01:28 AM
Wow, two months salary. Isn't that what you are supposed to pay for that engagement ring??
I always stick cash in an envelope, so they don't get taxed. I think that really sucks to get a $500 bonus and take home $334.28.

My last Christmas bonus was a set of divorce papers ,
didnt realise it then but it was the best damn gift the Ho had ever given me :D

I get to work for the third year in a row, that's what the company gives me for Christmas. Can't complain though, the money is good and they work around me wanting time off for racing in the summer.

Sea Esta

Ms SeaEsta usually takes care of where the Christmas party will be. She looks for different places to have the party. One year it was an old jail that was converted to a museum, one year it was an art museum, one year it was an old catherdral. She's had it at the Botanical Gardens. She does find some neat places to have parties. The food is always great! She looks to different caterers and tries each year to top the previous. She always makes sure that you can do something besides talking to people. She wants the employees to want to come and have fun, not make it one of those where you have to come to be socially correct.
