Hello I am new to the board. I run a V8 on an old style 21 Daytona. I do not competitively race nor do I plan to. I just want to blast down the river and accelerate hard. I had block mods performed but have yet to assemble the motor. I have been told by many that Rick Gillman was the man to talk to on the V8's. Does the babit or silver coating on the omc rods (the crank end bottom guide) have to be perfect. I have some where it is smeared a little. Does someone recoat these? Do you clean this area with scotch brite.? I know most outboarders would not have a V8 if you gave it to'um but i like the cubes.
Please advise if you kow.

Those boats should run. How many R's what props.
Wicky your running the same hull as mine and Kim I know that boat you have was never avertised with a V8. I saw the HST hydrostream article in Powerboat 1988 with a GT 200 and it ran 84mph. I know with a little port work from the right grinder that boat should move.
Wicky yours too!

Wicky wishes, LOL!:)
Try Gordon Montague, http://www.montyracing.com/ He has extensive experience with the V8.
You might give Greg Moss a call about the rod question, since you are so close. Acie Springfield is an OMC guy in your area too.

Actually, JPA, I don't have a V8 and that picture isn't my boat. I have a V6. A V8 would probably sink my boat!! I knew that picture would be similar to your boat. I was obligated to post it.
That is a bitchin setup though!!

I have had mine to 8000, but the rebuild was next year! I run a 30 Chopper and with 340hp at the prop, she move really sweet!....( . )( . )......70 - 80 is a nice crusing speed to keep on top the chop, good speed to take the family out for a ride at:D
