The grandson of the guy that the Cole was named for used to stay in my house. A friend of my sons who lived with us while attending Cullinary school. He has the ships crest tattooed on his right arm.
His name...Cole of course! He was really affected when it was attacked.

This gave me the chills...........One of my favorite parts in the Movie Pearl Harbor was when the Japanese were rejoicing about having bombed us and back in Japan the Admiral says "Im afraid all we have done is awake a sleeping Giant".

the NAVY has just become a big part of our family or i should say we have become part of theirs! as our son has enlisted with the
NAVY and leaves jan- 6- 04 !!

great lakes ,yes! jan he starts basic (seaman recruit) now. but is already working on E2 the next rank.great lakes,winter!!!!!!!!!!

He will enjoy his career. I did 8 years and am now in the Army Guard full time. I did however tell them if they wanted me they had to promise boot camp in San Diego but I hear that is closed now.
Tell him boot camp is all a mind trip and great training. Just do what you need to do and it flys by. The training part you never realize until you are out in the fleet or even back in the real world. It teaches you some tolerance levels that you will never get in the civilian world.
Good luck to the new sailor/squid/swabee etc...
