Here's the deal! My boat is getting a new motor this winter-a 514 stroker with Edelbrock aluminum heads, tunnel ram with dual 600 Holley 4150 style double pumpers, lunati Hydraulic flat tappet camshaft with 10:1 compression. Boring .030 over. Shooting for 550-600hp hooked to a freshend up Berk JC with split bowl conversion including a droop, shoe & ride plate, brand new A impeller. MPD will be redoing the pump and Bennett will be working his magic on the bottom.
What do you think my goal speed should be with this set up. The boat is a '19 foot Hallett Bubble deck!
I am hoping for a good solid 80-85 mph.

Trav,
You gotta talk to Stevie B about a different cam and up your expectations out of that mill. I'd jpc your setup to give you an estimate, but the bottom work, ride plate and droop will change your drag coefficient totally fubaring the estimate. I'd say that you'll get to 80 with the 600hp and proper setup. Anything over that is just gravy.
Make sure you have em pre-drill the tunnel ram for the fogger system you'll want to do next winter to keep up with the Joneses. ;)
Either way, you'll deffinitely have one of the nicer pacakges at the CBBB next year.

Hopefully 80! That is my goal. Oh and Todd Leslie and I are history so hopefully I will have a new chick at CBBB next year riding shotgun!

Lunati cam.
ADV Duration-275/275
Lift at Valve-.560"/.560"
lift at lobe-.324"/.324"
114 deg lobe seperation
RPM range 1800-6000

I would not run that small off carbs on that motor. Run 750dp's. I already made that mistake, got 500rpms when I switched from 600's to 750's. I am running a 460 bored .080 over with 10.8:1 compression. SRP Flattops with Scat H-Beam rods. The heads are c9ve castings w/ 2.19 intake and 1.76 exhaust valves with a little port work. I am running a Comp Cam 300 AR solid roller and its quite usable to ski with. It turns 85mph @ 5700 rpms with an Agressor Mag Bronze B impeller. You should be able to run close to 80 with your set up!:)

This cam seems far too small for your goals (even for a hot 10:1 CR 460), I would be inclined to take a look at something like the Comp XM288H (244/254 @ .050 on 112 lsa) with the above recomended 750 cfm carbs. My guess is you will fall shy of 80 mph with that pee-shooter Lunati cam.

trav that cam dose seem a bit on the small size it cant be much bigger than what you are running now? i believe you have a isky mega 278 right? that would be right around the same lift. i would look in to the roller set up like others have said take it from me iam going to be going that way this winter .;) hell i have a claysmith 310 duration 645 lift . solid cam up if you want that insted. lol

I ran these 2 Solid Roller cams.
Part # Grind Adv. Dur. Int/Exh Dur .050 Int/Exh Lift Int/Exh Lobe
CCA-34-700-9 280AR 280/280 238/238 .634/.634 110 2500-6000
CCA-34-710-9 300AR 300/300 257/257 .663/.663 110 3200-6500
I had the smaller one in a 429, sounded like a kitten purring, almost no notice of a big cam, but it turned 82.3 mph. The bigger one is the one that I am currently running in a 460 and its sounds Crackly. This pushes my Porpoising pig to 85mph!!
If you decied to actually run a solid roller no matter what brand, DO NOT SKIMP on the valve train. I used all Comp Cams stuff including there Stainless Rockers. I think Crower makes a good set also. The last thing that you want to happen is a broken rocker arm when your wide open!!!

Travis,
Give the spec over to who ever is assisting with the parts selection and have them give you a ballpark HP/CI ratio at 5600rpm based on your proposed setup. If that number doesn't equal over 600hp I think 80 is going to be a tough nut to crack.
There are probably better flat tappet profiles available, but a roller would be the better setup (albeit at a higher cost) One other thing, it shouldn't cost Lunati anything extra to do a customer spec'd grind over a shelf model.
I want to see you reach your goals, so make sure that the parts combo you are looking at will get you to where you need to be from a HP standpoint.
Since Jack and Dave have a lot of data on Bandy's boat and its the same hull and pump setup that you will have, I would ask Jack how much HP you're gonna need to spin that B to get to 80 minimum, then build accordingly.
Feel free to call me if you have any other questions bud.
Take care,
Chris
