This is going to be a family vacation, more of a sight-seeing adventure. What should we see and what to avoid? Gonna try to hook up with some of you at BBSP this year I hope. Where is the closest Indian Casino to Anaheim?

Try going to Universal Studios, we were there a few weeks ago and it was a blast and not very crowded.

The adventure park isn't as good as the original park IMO. I think the closest Indian Casino would be Morongo near Hemet. There are also some "OUTLET" stores nearby for your shopping pleasure. :)

A co worker was in court for something and he said that 95% of the people there that day got busted picking up hookers (cops) on beach.
So i guess if they don't have aids they have a badge.
Real, Ca Adventure is ok too. They also have a deal between the 2 parks that's free. It's full of shops and has some cool bars and clubs. The wife and I go to ESPN zone there allot.
Newport beach is pretty cool. I think the Queen Mary in Long Beach is worth the trip. I got married on that ship.
Knotts Berry farm is pretty close also.

Whatever you do, don't come all the way out to LA and go to some g*d D*m Indian Casino. Unleast not untill Arnold gets some tax money from them. :D Things to see or do:
Disney World, CA Adventure Park, Universal Studios and City Walk, Venice Beach and Santa Monica Pier, Queen Mary, Knotts Berry Farm, Six Flags. That should keep you busy for a few days.

Keep in mind that it's So. Cal...if you plan on traveling anywhere after 2:00 p.m. - plan on sitting in some traffic. Not trying to discourage, only giving you a heads up for calculating travel time.
My inlaws from New Zealnd/England always get pissed beacuase they plan these really busy itenerararies, but never compensate for traffic time and then they miss some of their stops.
A trip tp the indian casino near Hemet is a cool 2 hour hour trip each way, without a lick of traffic.
Sticking to OC is nice, lots to do.

Thanks for all the info. Is Santee Alley a good place to go bargain shopping and is it safe to go down there?

Ah, the garment district in downtown. It's safe, you're not going to get mugged or anything, at worse you will have to deal with mega pandhandlers and the stench of urine.
The garment district is pretty neat, tons and tons of places to go though, you should definitely have a plan of attack. Make sure you find a parking lot, as opposed to a meter.
Pershing Square is also in downtown and the jewelry district is right there. From Pershing square you can catch the metro rail subway up to Hollywood, the Kodak Theater area is really nice now (it used to be an armpit but we stayed there for the LA Boat Show and I was impressed with how much they renovated the area). I think the rail also goes to Universal City Walk? You might verify that info first.
What else ya wanna know?

There is also a "LOCAL DASH BUS" that cost .25 I think there are 3 of them that can get you all over downtown LA ,China town to the Colisum and I think they run every couple of minutes. The new GOLD line runs to Pasadena Old town thats also nice for having lunch !

We are planning on renting a car. Would a person be able to check out Venice Beach & Santa Monica Pier then take a drive through Beverly Hills and Hollywood all in one day?

Yes, all those areas are still in the mteropolitan area. Universal is only 5 minutes away from Hollywood is you squeeze that in too.
Venice during the summer is kinda cool for a little while...that's a pretyy tough area. Not sure about the winter though..will be cold and not much action on the beach (unless there is something I don't know about). Cholo's/lowriders rule the roost there..personally I feel safer with homeboys in souh central. Be careful there.
Santa monica pier is cool, you have the 3rd street Promenade in Santa Monica, or you can even cruise up the coast to Malibu.
Beverly Hills...you going to check out Rodeo Drive, or star homes? That's kinda cool too. If you are in Beverly Hills, it's real esay to jump onto Sunset Blvd and go into Hollywood.
Downtown LA at night, during zmas is spectacular looking, all the big bldgs are lit up in green/red.

Does the Venice Boardwalk thing happen during the winter months or will it be a waste of time. Where is Muscle Beach located exactly?

I would not recommend a trip to Venice in the winter. That is a crappy nieghborhood. If you wanna see the beach I would recommend Huntington Beach. Lots of cool shops to check out, clean beach, great downtown atmosphere, surf museum and it's a really safe place. Good food in town and fashion island is just up PCH a few miles boasting a 100+' christmas tree. Good shopping there too but a little spendy for my beer budget. My .02

Was just thinking that Venice would be cool place to pick up some t-shirts and stuff like that or is that kinda stuff available in most areas? But I think I will take your advice and stay away, probably go to Santa Monica Pier. Where is Huntington located?

Orange County, 10 miles or so from Anaheim.

Yes HB is much nicer than Venice but the tourist thing still goes on in Venice during the winter. If you park on the beach at Venice it is not a rough area. Just walked along the Venice boardwalk and you'll eventually see the parks & rec area with the bball courts and weight lifters etc
My suggestion is park at the Santa Monica pier go to Hot Dog on a Stick to get some corn dogs and lemonade than rent some bikes or skates (for the kids) and cruise down to Venice.

I was in Venice a couple of days ago and it was COLD and miserable. No much going on. Venice is cool during the summer, but I would stay away from it at this time.

Take a harbor cruise in Newport Bay. It's cheap and you get to see some pretty nice homes. The 90 min tour goes out to the Ocean.http://www.funzoneboats.com/

One piece of advice - stay away from Disneyland during the Holidays. We tried that and it sucked with all the tourists in town and locals with time off. Plus we ran into the fans, marching bands and teams playing in the Rose Bowl! Crowds were the worst I've ever seen.

If you really want to go to Venice than do it, stay on the board walk and check out all the shops, almost all of them stay open year round and it's alot of fun to just go look at every thing. I dont think your going to see many if any of the street perfomers but I'm sure there will be a few die hards that still need to make a buck or two. I would'nt worry about getting hassled by anyone, just go have a good time.

That was kinda the plan for Venice, just to see it and check out the shops. Is Muscle beach closer to Venice or Santa Monica Pier?

Muscle beach = Venice, but Santa Monica is very close. You should rent some bikes and you can get around the beaches real easy. I myself like the south bay beach scean but that's cause I lived there for so long. But for an out of towner Venice is a must see.

lol, that is good advice but he's is a tourist and I would think that Disney is on his to do list.
But for me, being that I live right on the other side of the freeway from there. Yes, I will go a few blocks out of my way to avoid that mess. It's worse during the holidays but it's bad all the time.

We arrive on Dec.23 evening and leave on 27th morning so we got alot to see in 3 full days. I think the plan is Dec.24 Venice, Santa Monica Pier, Hollywood, Unversal City Walk. Dec.25 California Adventure Park and Downtown Disney in the evening. Dec.26 ? maybee Santee Alley or some other shopping. Is this all possible in 3 days.
