Accelleration experiences? I know there are some old nitro junkies or maybe even some jet pilots or something around here. Boats, carnival rides, cycles, whatever. Describe some of your experiences. I'm bored.
I just took my bro's nicely worked over 800cc snow machine out this past weekend and its gotta be one of the best accelleration g's I've had. Way better than the 12 sec boat or stang I got or the 10 sec crotch rockets I've been on. I'd say it was pretty comparable to accelleration I had in a ride of a 9 sec flattie.
The snowmobile reached 100mph gps with 1/3 throttle. hard to get it hooked up without hard packed snow/ice and a little speed though. Once halfway hooked, man did it pull you back hard and get squirrelly real fast.

I have ridden in a sand rail once and it did launch extremely hard, don't remember the details of the rail, but it was cool. A friend has a cr500 that is pretty fun with a paddle tire in the sand.

Id have to say that my first ride along in a K boat was my greatest accelleration experiance. I had no idea what I was in for. Cory turned the wheel at what felt like 120 (probobly closer to 70) and next thing I know he's holding me in the boat by the back of my vest. From that point on I quit worrying about looking cool and white knuckled the "Oh Shit" handle the rest of the ride. What a blast. Now, i love seeing the look on somebodys face the 1st time they go for a hot lap in a Flattie and know exactly whats going thru their head.

Went on a test flight on a DC10 (really big airplane). The test pilot want to show his buddy, who came with us just what this beast was made of. None of us knew he was going to do this.
Out on the runway he shuts down the packs (air conditioners) and runs power up to full before releasing the brakes. We start down the runway and he is holding the plane down as long as he can. When he pulled up it seemed like we were heading straight up in the sky. We were pressed tight into the seats. You could feel the Gs on you. Everone had a shit eating grin on their faces. After climbing for what seemed like eternity we started running out of steam. With the Gs coming off it felt like we were falling backwards out of the sky! About then he nosed it over hard and the roller coaster began. You cant buy a ride like that!:D

Well its not the fastest I’ve ever been or the quickest.. But Three days only took a few of us to Catalina on his 36' spectre.. On the way over we averaged between 75 and 85.. When your (me) used to a smaller boat and see the big waves coming up so quickly.. My self preservation tells me .. "There is no way your going to make that".. And we blasted through it.. This went on for the whole 19min or so it took us to get to Catalina.. Very intense.. Lots of fun.. I couldn’t imagine being in an ocean race in one of the big boats.. Those guys are nuts.

HH Where do you jump from? I have jumped out at Perris Valley before and looked at Elsinore. Going to wait until Feb-March then get certified. Expensive sport to get into, but once in it is cheap.

Fast rides, I’ve been fortunate to have a few. Most recently 112MPH @ Buena Vista in Mark’s Stoker.
Without a doubt the most kick ass ride I ever had was back in the 80s in an F-106 Delta Dart. For an old airplane it still had some balls. Maj. Al Tischner from the Fresno Air National Guard owed me a favor for some mission strike planning I cooked up for him and the squadron. They received an excellent evaluation on the exercise. Needless to say I parlayed a letter of appreciation into a back seat ride in the two seat version of an F-106. Major Al took me around the old fighter jet explaining everything to me as we did pre-flight checks. We climbed into the cockpit, plugged in our G suits and the crew chief assisted me with the seat harness. After getting familiarized with the O2 settings and ejection handle and egress procedures we taxied to runway 22 for departure at Edwards AFB. Now this was my first ever jet fighter ride. Major Al locked the brakes, ran the power up to Mil Power and then released the brakes. The acceleration was unbelievable.
After we rotated he banked hard to the right climbing like a bat out of hell. In a little less than 5 minutes we were above Edwards at nearly FL500 (50,000ft) leveling off in the High Supersonic Corridor heading east. He then advanced the throttle and went into afterburner. Before I new it the Mach meter was pushing past 1.0 M and steadily climbing to 1.7 Mach. I actually got to fly the jet at supersonic speed. There is nothing to reference speed at FL500 but the view is something to behold. You can actually see the curvature of the earth and the sky is a very dark blue. I got to fly the jet up throught the Panamint Valley until we got to the dunes at the north end. The Major then took over and showed me what it was all about, 200ft off the desert floor at .9 Mach. With all the desert terrain rushing by at that speed it felt real fast. By the way, 760.95 MPH at sea level is Mach 1.0.
I hope you all enjoyed this true story as much as I enjoyed sharing it with you.
PS
The Fresno Air National Guard will be switching to F-15 2 seaters soon. You know what I am up to.
;)
Hallett (still beggin' for fighter rides) Dave :D

I have parachuted out of a helicopter that was hovering. That was cool. Jumping out of a moving plane is just a sense of wind rush and violet upheaval, but you never get a sense of falling initially because you are still moving forward at 120 mph or whatever. Even jumping out of a C-141 is anti-climactic, as long as you consider jumping out of a huge jet and being slammed into it's slipstream anti-climactic I guess.
Jumping out of a hovering helicopter is wild though. You get a sense of acceleration from the first second until you hit terminal and you are just falling steadily.
Again, that was cool! :D

I watched a guy on a Hayabusa out run the Clark County Sheriffs Chopper about 20 miles N of Vegas. Wierdest thing, cruising at a buck-ten and seeing a helicopter suspended off your right shoulder flying sideways looking at you.
BTW the guy on the busa said the chopper couldn't hang above about 170:eek:

Probably a 1989 Porsche Turbo, 4 speed, single KKK turbo the size of a small child, hit the gas from a stand still and its not too crazy, once that thing got to about 3500 RPM's I have never felt acceleration so sudden, felt like the hand of God helped that car out, it was wierd. http://www.***boat.com/image_center/data/520/1281989_porsche_911_turbo-1-med.jpg

This is some neat stuff, Halletdave, really cool story. My boss (when I worked at a marina in college) somehow caugt a ride a ride in a mil jet at klamath falls, Or and couldn't wipe the grin off his face for weeks. I here there is a place in Fl that gives rides in a small jet, I might have to settle for that someday.

I got to drive a Ferrari 575 Maranello two weeks ago, 0-140 in no time at all. It pulled hard, I was shifting at about 8500 RPM on a 9500 redline. Sweet car.
My brother bought a M-B S55 AMG this week, I took it out for a spin. Holy shit, gotta be the fastest four door car ever :D
It's puttin' out 493 HP.....
