I got the Official BOR release today. The River is only going to be dropped 1 FOOT.
Hardly enough to get excited about. The River fluctuates by more than that every day.
Up until the notice came out, I was under the impression it was going to be lowered around 8-10 feet. Guess they changed their minds.

Just curious, but what kind of work/repairs can really be done if they only drop it 1 foot? Whats the point?
:)

Are they not lowering it due to the lack of water??

I guess I will cancel my "backhoe" reservation!
At least I won't have to sweat the $25,000 fine this year!
Thanx for the info, I bet there will still be some snowbird (blue hair) out there with his metal detector and flashlight the second it lowers so much as an inch.

this does suck! I was really hoping they'd lower the river 10ft or so. My dock is falling apart and need to lay new concrete for a new sidewalk.

Alan,
Do the engines decide lowering levels and dates. or the BLM,, or who?
The drunks at the bar at Emerald want to bet it's the engines.
I'm going to take that bet that it's the BLM, or reclamation.
Didn't they used to lower it way, way down twice a year?

I went on that site and that sure dosen't look like Havasu it looks more like Laughlin. Last time i checked Havasu didn't have high rise Casino's.

The pics on the site look to be from different jobs...the pics from Havasu look like the ramp at Havasu landing...the other job looks like a ramp there in Bullhead...

The company I worked for almost used that company once. But instead we drove piling to build a dam. Interesting stuff though when you think that you hold back a small part of the ocean while the work is completed.

The Indians have no more say than anybody else on whether the River is lowered or not.
Last year we requested the lowering to do our seawall and dock work. Sometimes when the Tribes need to do work on the irrigation canals, they will request that it be lowered. Other than that they have zilch control over the water levels.
When, where and how much the River is lowered is at the sole discretion of the Bureau of Reclamation. They're responsible for all water delivery on the Colorado River, from it's inception in Montana, down to the Mexican border.
